Alright, Joey's affection for Rachel I think has to do with the fact that she is pregnant more then anything else. I have a feeling Joey is only infatuated with her because she is pregnant and vulnerable. These feelings I believe will translate to a relationship with pheobe, seeing how Rachel and Ross are having this child and that they will obviously get closer together as the episodes pass on. Getting back to Joey though, I think with him seeing the changes in Rachel's and his life, he will want that nurting feeling with someone else. His current infatuation with Rachel is simply or probably the same thing as a nurse falling in love with a patient. Nothing more. A simple crush. However we will see in the upcoming episodes.

Well, Florence Nightingale Syndrome aside, I think vulnerability in women is a very alluring trait harkening back to primal days. I would agree, however, that this alone would not sustain a long term relationship. So, we will have to wait to see if any more permanent connection develops.
Wouldn't the fact that they have been friends for 8 years, lived together and pretty much know all there is to know about each other a relatively good indication that Joey's feelings may in fact be real?? And his reluctance at having them in the first place seem to indicate that this is not a whim.
Why would the Ross/Rachel scenario seem more plausible? If anything, I think that a R/R reunion would be a nightmare. They would need to hire a fleet of bellhops just to help them with all the emotional baggage.
It's funny, but people always seem to think that having a baby together makes a bad relationship flourish with new life. From personal experience, the opposite is true.
The show needs new energy and a Rachel/Joey romance would accomplish that. Dredging up the R/R plotline again would just be repetitive, imho. For a long time, I watched 'cause it was the only thing on. Now, I can't wait for the next episode.
Yes, they have been friends for eight years, but Joey's feelings are now romantic. This is new. Rachel is unaware of it completely, and is still living in with the assumption that they are just friends. Therefore, we must wait to find out what develops.
Well, *I* didn't say anything about R/R in this thread, but Marco did. I don't agree with Marco's assumption that having a baby together brings people together. If they have a good relationship, then yes it can bring greater unity, but if they don't have a strong relationship, it probably won't bring them closer. In fact, it would probably widen the gap.
I have been a strong believe in the idea that Ross really needs to grow up for it to work with Rachel. If that doesn't happen, then I don't see them ever getting together.

It's odd that you would say that the show needs a R/J romance to give it energy. Before the J/R thing started this season has shown a great surge of support giving the show ratings it hasn't seen in quite a while. I do agree that the J/R relationship is very interesting, but it seems that much of the US was already very interested in what R&R have been up to in making a baby.
I think I'm thrown off so much by recent events on the show, that I can hardly wait to see what happens next. I don't care if it's Ross, Rachel, or Joey.
Come to think of it, it's probably time for one of the other three to have a real attention-getter show. Maybe Ross could knock-up Phoebe. Now there's a story-line! <kidding, bg >

Did anyone watch Saturday Night Live the past Saturday(Jan. 19)? They did a funny thingie by changing the Friends commercials and adding, "is Friends running out of combinations? Who will Ross turn to next? His sister? Next week on a special Friends...Ross and Monica!" LoL, that was hilarious...and gross.
Yes. It was indeed hilarious. It was one of those SNL commercials where you aren't quite sure for a second if it is real or not. They did a great job of getting the same feel as the Friends commericals lately. Scott
