What a contrived ending. For a start I'm sure that as his Grandmothers engagement ring would have massive sentimental value I can't imagine Ross would just leave it in his jacket pocket even if it's left in Rachel's room. But then to have Joey come and chat to Rachel just after Janice had placed the seeds of doubt about Ross in Rachel's mind was, IMO, very lazy writing. And to make matters worse, Phoebe has just convinced Ross to "give it a go" with Rachel and as Ross is on his way to Rachel's room with some flowers to, it would be reasonable to assume, ask her to get together with him, Joey looks in Ross' coat and then finds the ring, turning towards Rachel causing Rachel to assume he is going to propose to her and saying yes is just pathetic. If Joey is any sort of friend then when he finds out in the final season what Ross was planning then he should step aside. But we all know that the writers will by then, have Ross no longer wanting to get together with Rachel. How many times have they used this story line. Don't get me wrong, I love the show, but this story line has been recycled numerous times and is now past it's sell by date. I'm glad the 9th season will be the last if the writers can no longer think up new plots.
