This was a page out of the season 7 book...put the characters in a ridiculous situation and find the most unbelievable way to resolve it. Of course, they were already in a hole with the cliffhanger, but they could have resolved that much better than they did.
And now we the audience are supposed to be mad at Joey and sympathizing with Ross because of something Joey was not at fault for? And they are going to drag out Ross and Rachel getting together because they made Ross think Rachel wants to be with Joey because of the accidental proposal?
I think it was quite a good way they went, at least, no, especially for a sitcom. And Ross is the good guy, yay! He's done or wanted to do exactly what I hoped for: no proposal, but start dating again.
I think Joey's out of the conflict now. We're supposed to be mad at Rachel, like Ross is. Note: this is the first time solely Rachel's screwing up their relationship and Ross is right about being mad at her, although it might take only a few episodes to make him forgive her, probably until the 200th.
They gotta fill 24 or 25 episodes and keep the audience tuning in each week somehow. I don't think Ross thinks Rachel wanted to be with Joey, he's just disappointed, hurt.

Um, no. I don't think we're supposed to be mad at Joey. I actually think they handled that situation very well, and they didn't really blame the "engagement" on anyone (if anything, it seemed to me like Ross was more upset with Rachel than Joey over all this). They sorted out the confusion better than I thought they would.
I agree. Classic "sitcom" screwups, then resolution, leading to another storyline. I mean, after all, they had to wrap up that bit of confusion pretty quick, IMO.
And now, the semi-focus may be on Monica and Chandler trying to have a baby (cringe!).
I thought the banter of misunderstandings between the different people was kind of silly and unrealistic, but it works as farce; if they had all been honest with each other from the beginning there would not have been much of a show.
No, I don't think so. He dragged his heels a little in a difficult situation, but all six of them regularly do that; it's one of the comic staples of the show. Now, Ross, coming from a less omniscent position than we are, may have some problems with Joey, but I think Joey's subtext is that he did not intend to have this happen and his primary desire was to fix it. This is Rachel's fault, not Joey's.
Yes, I think that's it. Earlier you and I debated about who would be in the position to make the decision about this triangle. It appears that Joey is out, and Rachel will be waiting for Ross to forgive her for awhile. Ross is the one in control at the moment.
I kind of wish they would wrap this up and get on to the stuff about Phoebe that has been rumored. The will they/won't they thing is so overdone they could use it for shoe leather. Somebody else's turn, now.
I liked portions of the show, but they need to completely rewrite Jack's reaction to Monica and Chandler. That was extremely dirty, rude, unbelievable and for the first time in a few years I'm really rather appalled at what the NBC censors let these people put on the air. Yuck.

Firstly, I don't think that she knew that her mother gave Ross the ring. She only knew that her mother wanted Ross to propose. So, without knowing that her grandmother was in anyway involved, she might not have recognized the ring. Secondly, she was being told that Joey gave Rachel the ring. Where would Joey get her grandmother's ring? So, there's nothing to make the connection except a memory of a ring spanning several years, and certainly a completely different context.
Of course, being a typical man, I might be missing the whole "it's a one-of-a-kind ring" thing.
