This is my first message to the board, but I was wondering about the thoughts of everyone here about Joey and Rachel maybe possibly having a brief fling this year. I think it's a given that they will put Ross and Rachel together at the end, but during season 8 I would think most wouldn't mind seeing Joey and Rachel hook up for a moment since they clearly have some chemistry between them that has developed over the past two years as roommates.

Even the brass at NBC is acknowledging that Joey and Rachel are a possibility when they include them in the "Who is the father?" promo for the season premiere, even though there hasn't been a relationship so far between the two, at least not compared to Tag and Ross.

What do you guys think about the daring couple?

Actually, i always wanted Phoebe and Joey to hook up mainly because they are both "cooky" as they say. They're both a little (understatement) wierd and it seems they understand each other. Remember the episode where Chandler is trying to hook up Rachel w/ someone from work and he starts talking about this guy that works in the food area in his company. And Phoebe's like "you guys have robots" and then a little later Joey's like "You have robots and... (forgot the second thing)" and then phoebe says "noooo...the robots just work for them." So its like they are both in the same "other" world.

Rachel and Joey seems like a wierd combination just cuz Joey is a flirt and Rachel is into serious relationships (sometimes! lol). If Joey was the father i would be too weirded out...

Believe it or not, I am beginning to understand that Joey may actually be better suited to Rachel than Ross is. If the writers had gone another way, this might have worked. However, I know enough about what happens at the beginning of next season to say that I don't think Joey/Rachel romance, even one beginning as early as episode 5, is going to fit in very well. It will not match what has preceeded it.

Geez...just because they have no previous history doesn't make them a good match! Well...lets see... Phoebe and Ross dont' have any history why not make them a choice?

Phoebe and Joey is the only possible match in my opinion. Joey and Rachel just don't match!

When did Tennant Stu. ever say anything about Phoebe and Ross?

I would be okay w/ Phoebe and Ross but definately not with Joey and Rachel. Joey is WAY too immature. Rachel and Joey just dont' fit i don't know how many times i can say that. Chemistry in Season 7?? They lived together, of course they have to get along!

Phoebe & Joey don't make a proper couple, they're different types. Joey & Rachel have had great chemistry during Season 7, with much foreshadowing.

You must be seeing something that i don't see. But i do think that Phoebe and Ross sounds nice. I don't think Joey can be w/ any of the girls. He's too stupid and immature.

Thanks. I reckon they *look* like a couple, the way real couples do.

Joey is not at all stupid. He's no genius, and his education is lacking, but he's shown on *many* occasions that he's fairly clever, but he tends to play dumb for Chandler's benefit, probably as a defence mechanism. As for immature, he acts like that sometimes, as guys tend to do, but he's the one who gives mature advice about relationships, in many episodes.

No, I don't think he's in denial. He's just trying to find rhyme or reason to the fact that Joey's IQ vacillates wildly from episode to episode. Some times Joey is much too bright to be as stupid as he is usually written - but Joey's default setting IS to be stupid. Unfortunately, being stupid limits what a character can do, so they fudge and give him a dose of temporary intelligence serum from time to time, then hope we won't notice. Many of these character have pretty wild character swings from episode to episode. Is Joey stupid or clever? Is Ross crazy or compassionate? Is Monica stable and sensible or tiresomely hysterical? About the only one who is written completely consistently is Chandler, and even then we have the question: Is Chandler a funny wise-cracker or Monica's boring lap dog?

I think she's talking about the whole 'its a moo point' line where Joey encourages Rachel to approach Tag.

You really think Phoebe is slow???? What about all the times where she has been quite shrewd and manipulative. Same goes for Joey. When it comes to really important issues, he manages to come out on top.
