|I haven't posted because it has been a roller coaster ride again, but |mostly down hill. For several days, Lee has not been able to follow |direct commands. He does react to stimuli and me, in between the |reflexive movements. He has not really opened his eyes lately and has |become more agitated. His breathing was doing great but then he began |having irregular breathing and apnea for periods longer than a minute |so they have him back on the ventilator. We have tried several times |to wean him off but without success, especially when we have had to |sedate him. He depends pretty much on the machine during those |periods. They breathing patterns seem to be getting worse and I am |afraid he won't be coming off of it. He does have moments which makes |it even harder. |The nurses have been kind enough to let me lie down next to him for |several hours and just hold him. He has patted my shoulder, rubbed my |neck, scratched my back and hair, and when I do open his eyes, |sometimes looks at me. I am not sure if he is there all the time, but |I do feel his presence some of the times and do genuinely feel that he |knows I am there. |He doesn't sleep on his own any more. They had to give Adavan, |benedryl or both. They had to increase the dosage of the Adavan |because he had become used to it already. He is so restless and |sleeps at most for 2 1/2 hours. He does sleep so peacefully. I looks |just like the Lee I know and love. I look at him and just expect him |to wake up from sleep. It doesn't really look like there is anything |wrong with him.... | |We are looking at care after the drain is pulled. The Dr. said that |when it is pulled, it is likely that he will go into a coma as the |pressure will build up and cause his systems to shut down. He could |also begin to reabsorb for a little while, the fluid, and remain |conscious for awhile. No one knows.... |We are going to try to take him home if possible. They (the nurses |and Dr's) told us we could just give him morphine to help with his |breathing when it begins to go. I just hope that we can all bear this |horrible time period. They aren't sure how long that could last |either. God willing, it will be short. | |Going to try to get some sleep....ha, yeah, right....like that will |ever happen again.... | |Love, |Jen (feeling totally depressed and numb...) |Lee Green aka Funny1 (Well not ALWAYS!) |[email] Please add a "w" before "riteme" to email. |Sorry for the inconvenience but spammers have made it necessary.
