DVD question

Ok I keep hearing that you need a multiregion DVD player to play Friends DVDs. Could someone explain this to me ? Thanks in advance :-)

$450 is expensive, compared to what it sold for here, but the player may be worth it for some people. Besides the whole simple region/macrovision disabling method, the player has great sound quality. In fact, it also plays CD's with MP3's encoded on it. Just dump a CD filled with mp3's into the player, and it reads the file structure off the disc, and gives you a menu style of operation. And the mp3's don't have to be in a specific format either...it converts them on the fly as you listen. Also, it should play CD-R's and CD-RW's that have been burned. So, I know some people who have connect one of the sound outputs to the stereo, and use this as an over-able CD player. Maybe 450 is still worth it...

You might be able to pay less at Ionark if they sell you a player without the voltage converter which Americans don't need. Failing that, try Ebay which is where Daria's Apex came from.

Does anyone know for a fact that Circuit City doesn't carry the Apex anymore? Last time I was there, they had it on the shelf. Obviously, I couldn't try to see if the menus worked, but I did see it selling at $190. That was about 5 weeks back.

Gosh, Vishal! That's news to me.

It would seem that the reports that the Apex player had been banned from Circuit City were yet more misinformation by those on ATF who for some mysterious reason do not want American fans to enjoy "Friends" on DVD.

Would you like to explain to the good people of ATF how to access the service menu? Then anyone interested in buying should *not* walk into the store and ask to be shown the players that handle Region Two, but ask to be allowed to try out the players for themselves.

They didn't have the machine connected to a TV.

I'll do two things. First, I'll run down to CC and see if it's still there. Then, I'll post the button sequence for the crack...which can probably be found by searching deja.com (the discussions). Remember, if you ever do buy one, and it doesn't work, CC's got a great return policy...30 days, no questions.
