Friends is back to #1!

After Everybody Loves Raymond beat Friends in overall-season ratings for a week, Friends is back in the lead. Here are the numbers ::

Friends is back to #1? I'm confused.

Friends is back to the #1 sitcom, after being (barely) usurped by ELR last week. Actually, those numbers from above are from last week. Today's paper lists Friends as #3 overall after the Jan. 4th episode, with a 15.0 rating/24.4 million viewers. ER was again #1 and the Orange BOwl was #2.

No...the numbers I posted are the Overall Seasonal Average, not just one week. Meaning from October 1st, those are the average numbers. Yes, Friends IS at #3 this week, after the Orange Bowl.

You're quite right. But ELR is unfortunately tied with Friends for 4th right now in the season to date numbers.They both have an average 13.6 rating, but Friends has the slight edge with a 22 percent of sets in use share over ELR's 20 percent share. Is that correct? I got that at Zap2IT.com.

This is an estimate, but the average this year so far in new episodes seem to be about 24.3 million viewers. It has always been up and down at 24 million. Sometimes it was 23.? and sometimes it was 25.? and so it may be around 24.?. If you want, you can calculate them yourself. Go to tv.zap2it.com and go to "TV News", and then click on "Ratings" and search the archives and stuff. You know how to average things out right?

For first runs, off the top of my head I would guess 17 to 20 million for ELR. They've just been doing a lot better in reruns than Friends has. ER does very poorly in reruns, but their first run numbers are so high they aren't afftected.

And I'm not sure the totals for Friends count the first run of 702, which wasat 8:30, but got the highest ratings of the season at about 27 million.

I just read that TOA the Super Bowl in 1996 had 52.9 million viewers. I think TOW The Proposal had 30 million its first run, which was the highest since 1998.
