Hello there group,
I was just going through the spam folder for the email account I use to post in newsgroups with. I found various emails (supposedly) from posters on this group, all called "Thank you" or "That movie", the messages appear to be empty though.
Did anybody else get that? Most of the emails were from Coffee Mug's and Jesse's email address btw. (I'm *not* accusing either of you of spamming, just wondering where these emails come from)

They're all sent by a virus, pulling addys out of address books for both the recipient (in this case you) and a fake sender. Other common titles are "Details"/"Wicked screensaver"/"Will it work?"/"Your application".

Other people use special letters in their names, that display okay.
Those special letters displayed just fine.

I guess it's one of those viruses that have been spreading around lately. I've read that they collect e-mail addresses on people's hard drives (cached web pages, newsgroups etc.) and send themselves to those addresses, pretending to be one of those addresses. (me, for instance... :(((( )
Last week the hotmail (spam) account I use for this and other newsgroups was really littered with "Undeliverable" messages from probably every ISP in Europe, but mainly Scandinavian ones, so I guess the unfortunate one who had the virus was from Scandinavia. (or people from those countries have the most NOSPAM tags added to their e-mail addresses)
