They are a cute couple and the most important traits in a spouse are not brains but love trust caring. Joey is all of these and more.

I don't know about that--sure, we've seen Rachel treat Ross badly, but Joey does that to women on a daily basis. Just because it's portrayed usually off-camera and in a joking manner doesn't mean that Joey is "better" than Rachel.
And looking at the above description by Caitrion, you could replace Joey with Ross. He's been supportive of Rachel throughout the pregnancy (tell me one thing he's done poorly). Ross has a steady job. Ross and Rachel are a cute couple. And when was Ross not loving, trusting and caring?

They're totally different people nowadays, and I cannot for the life of me recognize them as the two young people who fell in love in season 2. Rachel has changed into a more independent woman, and she's more confident than she has ever been. He has been there for Rachel ever since she moved in in 618 TOW Ross Dates A Student, and especially now after she got pregnant. He would be a great catch for Rachel IMO. (And while Rachel is absolutely great this season, I'm perfectly aware of the fact that she is no saint either.)
Now, I know that the fact that she is pregnant will cause problems, but personally, I think this is the best idea that the writers have come up with in a while.
Personally, I think Joey/Rachel can work. Joey has been the most supportive to Rachel since the pregnancy started. He doesn't have to always be on the make when he's around a woman. Sure he teases but that's what makes him cute. I also think the chemistry was much better between J/R than it ever was with R/R.
I think the folks who thinks that J/R won't work are R/R fans. R/R do NOT belong together, even though they will be tied together forever because of the baby. I hope that is as far as that relationship goes.
BTW, isn't Joey working regularly now on Days? They haven't been talking about it lately but I think he's still there. Hardly anyone job gets talked about except Ross, the big shot professor. Just because he has a bigger income doesn't mean he's a better person.
I for one am going to enjoy the Joey/Rachel story. Even if it's just a tease.

You mention Angela, and I assume you mean episode 406 TOW The Dirty Girl. Yes, that did prove that Joey was seeing a woman for three years. He hooked up with her again in 105 TOW The East German Laundry Detergent, so apparently Angela meant a lot to him. He also developed very strong feelings for Kate, which could have become a very serious relationship for him if she hadn't moved all of a sudden (322 TOW The Screamer). A few years later he fell for Janine, and that could also have become serious, but we all know that ended in 611 TOW The Apothecary Table.
Joey loves his friends more than anything else in the world, and he's probably the best friend in the entire group. Whenever some of the others have problems, he has always been there for them, and he's willing to break off his romantic relationships (i.e. Janine) in order to protect his friends.
Joey is a true catch, and any woman would be lucky to have him IMO. Having said all that, yes, Joey has flaws as well, but I don't think you can automatically say that Ross is a better person than him.

I agree with you. All I said was that the '3 girls at the same time issue' mentioned as cheating on the part of Ross was not actually cheating. All the examples you mentioned are very good. I never went into a comparison as to who is the better person. I did say, though, that I doubt that Joey would be able to stay faithful (just my opinion). It appears that he does have the quality of doing so if he really cares for someone but there is no actual ground you can base it on. I don't think that him not watching Phoebe's tape is such a big deal. Do you think the girls wanted to watch it cause they wanted to watch porn? No, they were simply curious. Same thing applies for Ross. It was curiosity, not lack of morals that lead them all to watch. I really like Joey's character and also think that he is the best friend in the group but it's still not enough to actually build a case on and say that he would not cheat on Rachel. He protects his friends and really loves them but also is the type of guy who has the tendency to sleep around with girls. Nobody knows which of the two is going to happen.

Joey cheats "constantly" (yes Tennant, constantly) and in Joey's case if we don't see it WE DO KNOW its going on.

Ross never cheated on Rachel with Julie. He and Rachel were officially broken up at that point and were both seeing other people. You cannot cheat on somebody you are not romantically involved with. Sure, he still had feelings for Rachel, but he chose not to act on them. In his eyes, he and Rachel were OVER, so going with Julie was what he chose to do.

Maybe this is just me, but I don't think Ross was at all in the wrong there. He'd had what, one or two dates with each of the women? There was no commitment there on either end yet, or assumption that they were exclusive. Dating several people at once may not always be the best idea, but it's not exactly rare for dating adults, before things even begin to get serious.
The same goes for Joey...he's rarely had an actual relationship to cheat in. It's been implied that he usually has one date - including sex - with a woman and that's it...if they even attempt to get in touch with him after that and he blows them off, sure, that's not cool, but I've never been under the impression that he made any sort of commitment to those women, so it's not exactly breaking up with them after 1 date.

This is how I see it.
cheating isn't CHEATING...
What Ross did with Rachel in 207 was following his heart. If you consider it as CHEATING then Rachel is to blame too (not as much as Ross though). It takes two to kiss : one to initiate the kiss and one to accept the kiss and not break it. She knew Ross was in a relationship with Julie.
What Ross did with Chloe isn't CHEATING. 1) He didn't plan it (that doesn't justify it but it would be a lot worser if he DID plan it) 2) Drunk people don't have (a lot of) boundaries, they're very easy going. Bad luck for Ross that he didn't ran in to Phoebe(or just any better person than Chloe) because she wouldn't have done what Chloe did with him. Chloe initiated the first kiss, I don't think Phoebe would do that in *that* situation. Remember in the flashback episode ? She was really sweet for him. She started to kiss him stopped when it went a bit further. 3) On a break, she can't blame him for thinking they were on a break because she clearly asked it. If she ment something different by it then she should have made herself more clear to him. 4) Ross being at an emotional depth...You don't ask for a break on your 1 year anniversary... 5) so many more things, this is not like your normal cheating stuff that you see on Jerry Springer.
I don't think you can say in this case this is the same as CHEATING. In a way he did cheat but in a way he didn't...Hard to explain...
What he did with Bonnie...well...again followed his heart.
What would you guys do when you were Ross in 207 (remember that he had a crush on this girl ever since he was 14) ? Would you be able to NOT kiss Rachel and first go break up with Julie ? Or if you were Rachel - deeply in love with Ross- would you be able to break it ? I think the same goes for the Bonnie case.
Another question. What if Joey was ugly and still hit on every woman ? I think he would be considered as a creep. I don't think he has a lot of respect for the woman he has sex with although he has for his friends. Just because you don't have any feelings towards a woman doesn't mean you should treat her like something that is only good for one night of casual sex.
But I don't think anyone of the six would cheat when being in love with someone (the Chloe stuff is something different though).
