Joey or Ross???

Hey, everyone. I'm kinda taking a poll here. Who do you think should end up with Rachel? Joey or Ross? For me, it's Joey all the way! You can see how much fun R&J have together and how protective he is of her, and of course how much he loves her! When Rachel is with Ross, you get a feeling that they aren't "in" love. They don't seem to enjoy being with each other as R&J! Just my opinion...

Grin. Read the newsgroup for a few weeks. This is quite a lively subject.

On the most practical and basic level, even before we get into long-term loyalties, I think that if the parents of a child can work it out amiably, they should make a real effort to do that.

i'd have to go for Joey, even though ross used to be my fave. Sometimes u r better off not being with the babies father, and end up having a better relationship with them cos of it

I'm gonna ignore everything and just say it: ROSS.

i've never been a R&R fan, so i'm gonna go with Joey, he is very sweet and i think that he really does love Rachel. I don't think that two people should be together just for the sake of a child.

Definitely Joey. I use to be a R&R fan, but the magic is gone. There is a reason for that saying "you can't go back." Two people should never marry or stay together if already married for the child's sake. It does more harm than good. Love and fear do not belong together. If fear is present than it is not love. Even if they were on a "break" the fact Ross did not hesitate to fall out of love and into bed with another woman initiates fear that could happen again. I see a significant amount of fear in the R&R relationship. To me it would be making a mockery of love for them to marry. After seeing the episode where Rachel tells Ross she is pregnant I definitely do not want to see them together. I, for one, found it highly offensive for Ross to state that they should marry, because "it is the right thing to do" and that Rachel isn't capable of raising a child alone.

Joey and Rachel have chemistry. I'd love to watch them develop a relationship.

Ross and Rachel seem "tired" when together. They have been through too much bad stuff (lots of relationship damaging hurt) and have little interests in common. They do not respect what each other do for a living. They have many unresolved issues. In fact it makes me wonder why they are even having a baby together! If R & R got together it would not make any sense at all to me.

If this was to happen to two people in real life, I would give them two weeks together maximum. Oh and they would not (hopefully!) be having a baby together!

Personally, I say Ross.

Though I feel there is little point in debating the whole thing. You'll see what you want to see, and I'll do the same for myself.

Here's an excerpt from an Entertainment Weekly interview with Matt LeBlanc, for another opinion:

ML: No. I'm perfectly content to be just a part of the group, in the background, come in wiht the big funny, support the stories.... This thing with Rachel was just--I mean, it threw a ripple down the core of the show because it was really risky: "What do you mean he's in love with Rachel? Hey, whoa. Wait a minute. That's inappropriate behavior, Joe. Put your d--- away."... That story line enabled me to show this new dimension of JOey that I was really reluctant to show.

EW: Why were your reluctant?

ML: Because I'm his biggest fan. I feel like i have his back, you know what I mean? To see him sad and get his heart broken, I don't want to do that. I reluctantly went out on stage and did my job those nights.

EW: Was Jennifer on the same page as you?

ML: Oh, yeah. The whole cast. We had a big meeting about it.... It was very scary to stand on the stage and not tell jokes. The producers were very sensitive to our feelings.

EW: Once it started clicking, did you want him to end up with Rachel?

ML: No. I want to see Ross and Rachel get together.

EW: Seriously--you're rooting for the other guy?

ML: They belong together. That's how the show started. And especially going into the next season, it seems appropriate.

Ross all the way... It would be sick and twisted to have someone (Joey) hook up with someone else (Rachel) when that someone has such a huge history, has been married to and is having a baby with his best friend (Ross). Furthermore R&R rule together... The J&R storyline shouldn't even have been brought up in the first place...

In the synopis contains info saying that Ross is carrying around an engagment ring, but as we all know they can jerk us around such as when the Vegas eposoides were on they said someone would get married and it was Ross and Rachel and not Chandler and Monica so it is confusing. The opinions on ATF are pretty much split down the middle. Seems to me that Rachel is a prize to be won between Ross and Joey. On one hand we seem to have the sentimental R&R fans rooting for their couple for several years now and on the other, fans who dislike Mental Geller and/or Joey fans including me that would like to see Joey win Rachel's affections.

On some level I wonder why the writers did not give Joey a new and exciting love interest instead. As a Joey fan I would rather not have him compete with Ross. Perhaps the fun is in watching who gets the better of whom.

Wonder who will lose? Ross or Joey?

Neither are R&J. I don't know if it's my fault, but whenever I see R&R together I think "It could happen again.", I was not feeling this or similar when I saw R&J.

That's pre-816 speaking, I guess? Rachel and Joey hadn't much [positive] interaction since. Rachel and Ross instead had.

I'm still hanging in with Ross. I have, in past posts, qualified my opinion though. I think Ross and Rachel must be more self-aware for it to work between them. In the past, their inability to see the big picture, trust each other (and provide a trusting environment to each other), and understand their own feelings kept them from being able to truly cultivate the relationship they were in.

In other words, to make it work, they need to grow up. They are no longer the twenty-something "kids" they once were. They are in their thirties now, and need to take responsibility of their lives, their emotions, and their actions with regard to each other (and the others around them). It's a tough line to follow for a show that is expected to be funny. Taking responsibility and "growing up" aren't the sources for the big gafaws that we all enjoy.

Joey has moved on (sleeping with another woman already) and Rachael never liked Joey in a romantic way. If she was going to, she would've by now. They lived together and spent every day together for crying out loud. I think if she was ever going to have feelings for Joey, those emotions would've done surfaced.

On the other hand, you can tell that she still has feelings for Ross. She gets jealous and still wants his full attention.

I think it's definitely going to be Ross she ends up with. The Joey thing was just a cheap ratings booster on the producers part. If they were really serious, they would've written it out better.

That is the true problem with Ross and Rachel. It isn't that they are completely incompatible; it's just that compatibility causes fewer laughs than problems. The moment Ross became more useful to the storyline as a responsible adult than as a scary freak, Mental Geller disappeared entirely. The character we saw *last week* has a good chance of making it with Rachel *if she is reasonable.* The guy who gave Mona a key and changed the locks wasn't fit to be with anybody.

Something I think everybody has to realize...this story stopped making any sense a long time ago. Both characters have been shredded and rebuilt several times in short-sighted attempts to draw out the suspense and provide thrills and chills at Sweeps time. Ross has lost a whopping handful of opportunities to be happy with women who WOULD have been much more appropriate for him than Rachel is because they wanted to keep this story going. I have long been of the opinion that the only shot Ross really had of taking his life back entirely and getting what he wanted - love and family - was to do as, curiously enough, Emily suggested - drum Rachel entirely out of his life forever. Never see her, never talk to her, never let her mess with his head and demand that he make increasingly sacrificial accomodation for her. Well, they have a child together now. That chance is permanently, entirely gone. She will either enhance or poison his life forever, and he can't escape it. If Ross doesn't get Rachel now, their story has been entirely about how the mistakes he made in their relationship tore him apart, made him borderline crazy, and ruined any chance for his happiness. Seems like a very creepy story for a protagonist of a sitcom, and more punishment than has been earned.

Turning it into a story about how they didn't get it together until they were both willing to grow up, respect each other and work as a team seems to be much more appropriate for a light comedy.

I don't know that there's anything wrong with most of the R&J fans. Some people are just fed up with the way Ross and Rachel treat each other, that's all. They think Joey might change the pace. The only angle which might make me say "what's wrong with you" is the angle which is cheering for Joey and Rachel to become lovers on the very day Ross' daughter is born. If THAT happens, I'm gonna be kind of sick to my stomach, especially with the teasing that has been preceeding that episode.

I think it's going to be Ross. Because since the beginning they are perfect with each other. Yes, there were some problems. But Ross had so many relationships that failed. If Ross didn't get Rachel, it would be likely that Ross turns crazy. And somehow, Ross always was a loser. I'd like to see him end up with Rachel.
