What was so special about this one after the super bowl .....

that so many people watched this? (it was mentioned in recent article describing rating of the last one......

this after the super bowl episode is not too extremally good -- just friends :o)

anyone will share some thoughts?

In the US in any given year, the Super Bowl is likely to be the highest rated broadcast of the year. As a result, whatever airs afterwards also tends to get huge ratings as well. Sometimes networks use the opportunity to premiere a new show after the game...other times they put an episode of an already popular series on, in the hope that the series fans (even the non-football watching fans) will make sure not to miss a new episode. In Friends, I'm guessing the combination of regular Friends viewers combined with the massive Super Bowl audience produced the show's highest rating ever.

Wasn't the original poster asking about the EPISODE, "The One After the Superbowl", where they had the football game on Thanksgiving? Rather than whatever show aired after the real superbowl? Or did I misunderstand the post?

I think you're refering to ep 309 "The one with all the football". The episode called "The one after the superbowl" was simply the one shown after the Superbowl on US TV. I couldn't work out for a couple of years what this title had to do with the episode unti someone explained it to me:-)

that's also why it had all the guest stars, Julia Roberts (how often do you see her on a TV show?), Brooke Shields, Jean Claude Van Damme, etc.

You're right - I really screwed that one up, the Superbowl isn't on Thanksgiving! That's what I get for not being a football fan. I never found The One After the Superbowl to be one of the better ones, because by then I was sick of the whole monkey thread, but I really liked The One with All The Football. I think that's my all-time favorite, out of all the seasons.
