For some time now I've been trying to find a copy of 'The Shrink Is In' (2000), the movie Courteney Cox and her husband produced and starred in just three years ago. Wish me luck! Apparently the movie was so bad the distributors refused to release it even in limited markets and it went "straight to video." This makes me curious as to just how bad this movie was. Remember Joe Gillis' line from Sunset Boulevard: "Sometimes it's interesting to see just how bad bad writing can be." The problem is I can't even find it on video. Among the 145,000 titles on Ebay.com, it is not to be found, among the 29,000 movie reviews on MRQE.com, it ain't there, and Amazon.com doesn't have it. The only information of substance on Google is a passing reference Courteney made to it in an ET interview from Oct/99: "It has been such an exciting summer and an exciting time. Doing 'The Shrink Is In' was such an important movie for me because it's something I really believed in. It was a big deal for me and I executive produced it. I had so much energy riding on the excitement of doing that and then getting married..." Apparently the movie did have a short run on one of the cable movie networks but has since been consigned to the ignominy of a cinematic black hole. All references to it are fading quickly. If anyone has seen this movie and can help me out, I would be grateful.

I have seen it. It wasn't that bad, I mean, it wasn't great. However, I digress, I watched it on that channel Oxygen. It's on it every now and again. I think I've seen it like twice on there. So my advice is that if you keep watching the listings, or do that thing online where you can look up the television schedule for certain stars, you may find it on that channel. I hope that it comes on soon so that you can see it. And good luck finding it.

No luck. They have 25 VHS or DVD movies featuring Courteney Cox but not that one. I'm sure there are some copies collecting dust somewhere; I vaguely recall seeing a listing for the movie on Ebay some time ago. The remarkable thing is that this film is only three years old, but not only did the theatres not want to show it, the video stores don't even want to stock it. The idea of witnessing such a disaster is what fascinates. I can't wait.

I actually watched it last weekend on Fox Family? I am not sure. It is making it's rounds on local cable. My opinion of it was that it was mediocre in substance, but still kept my attention. Courtney Cox and David Arquette are quite a pair.
