TOW Monica and Chandler's Wedding

WOW! What a great episode! Congratulations to the writers for a job well done! I feel like an idiot now for thinking the show was predictable! But I'll get to that later….

There were two main plots in this episode: the wedding story and Joey's story.

First, Joey:

(Part I) Joey is cast in a World War I film with an experienced actor (played by Lost in Space co-star Gary Oldman). The actor spits on Joey and teaches Joey that it is simply enunciation.

(Part II) Joey wants to leave early to get to the wedding, but the actor arrives drunk. Joey finally takes advantage of his drunkenness and makes it to the wedding on time.

While this part of the episode was only average, it was much better than Joey's finale stories the past couple years. At least this Joey was believable, unlike the incredibly stupid hand-twin Joey, or the boat auction Joey.

Oldman was given a decent-size role, but Morgan Fairchild and Kathleen Turner were underutilized in this episode. Their quarrelling with each other was really their only purpose in this story. Mr. and Mrs. Geller were great though.

Anyways, now for the wedding:

So, Chandler gets scared by the answering machine message and now freaks out every time he hears his last name. He ends up running away and Ross must find him.

Of course, the whole idea of Chandler running away on his wedding day is almost as contrived as Richard coming back to tell Monica he loves her. We are forced to see Chandler confess his love to Monica in every episode and now we are supposed to believe he would run out on her? Yeah, whatever…

Anyways, the writing was so good in this episode that I was able to overlook this issue and enjoy the story. The jokes were actually funny and all actors performed marvelously.

Well, back to the story. Phoebe and Rachel find a pregnancy test and believe Monica is pregnant. Later, Chandler overhears and freaks out again. But he comes to his senses when he realizes something that small couldn't hurt him. Chandler and Monica end up making it through their wedding and become husband and wife. Chandler tells her he knows she's pregnant. But here's the surprise of the season…

She's NOT! Camera flashes to Rachel with a nervous look on her face. To be continued…

I'm guilty. I was completely fooled. I was just beginning to accept the fact that Season Eight would focus on a Mondler pregnancy. But now that Rachel is pregnant (we assume), the show certainly looks to be heading in an exciting new direction.

Rachel's pregnancy seems great now, but will it turn out that way? R&R fans should probably stay cautious. The show has dashed fans' hopes before, and it very well could be set to happen again. The father could be anybody…

1)Tag: Unfortunately, this loser is the most likely suspect. He is last person we know of that slept with Rachel. But that was months ago. Would Rachel really have kept quiet so long? Would the writers actually bring this unpopular character back? And isn't Eddie Cahill getting his own show anyway?

2)Ross: This is what most people will be hoping for. But there was almost zero R&R interaction this season and no recent hints of a reunion. Of course, it is always possible the bonus night could have happened. But it wouldn't be surprising to see the writers destroy all hope for R&R fans by making the baby someone else's.

3)Joey: Maybe, since Joey has probably had more interaction with Rachel than anyone else this season. Rachel also mentioned wanting to sleep with Joey tonight, though it appeared to be a joke at the time.

4)Chandler: The least likely, but still possible. The writers would destroy the hopes of both R&R and C&M fans if this happened.

5)Gunther: Uh, please no…

6)Somebody else: Possible, I guess…though not likely.

Oh, well. I guess we'll have to wait until August, when the first spoilers come out…

Note: C&M fans shouldn't be too upset by tonight's episode. Just because Monica isn't pregnant now, doesn't mean she won't be in the fall. If CCA gets pregnant over the summer, Monica WILL become pregnant too.

Note the last episode before the finale featured a R&R storyline. So, what about the cop? They were flirting and seemed to be attracted to each other.

OK, I'm from the UK and have only read spoilers so far, but really - Rachel pregnant?!!!! (That's the assumption right?) What a load of crap!!!! Where the hell did that story (idea) come from? It makes no sense as far as I am concerned. There have been absolutely NO indications whatsoever concerning this idea - kind of a last ditch cover up in case JA is pregnant - next season - don't you think?

Someone called me at quarter til 9 last night, and so I missed the ending.....So thanks for the spoilers here. I knew I could count on you guys to tell me what happened!

But I think they tossed in the pregnancy test thing just to allow for the possiblity that all 3 of the women on the show are married in real life and might become pregnant (or someone is, in fact, already pregnant in real life) and they needed to work that into the show. They wrapped a few weeks ago (6-8 weeks ago, probably) and will start shooting again in a few weeks, so...it makes sense. If someone were 6-8 weeks preggers when the show wrapped, they wouldn't be showing yet, but they will be by the time shooting starts for next season. And you know....Phoebe is wearing loose clothing again...and Lisa Kudrow has been married the longest, and her son is, what...2 years old now???? It wouldn't be that far fetched for "Phoebe" to act surprised by the pregnancy test in the trashcan, to throw Rachel off the track. For all her silliness, she's crafty that way. See, if Phoebe acted surprised, Rachel's natural response would be to assume it was Monica who was pregnant. Assuming one of them took the test, the one who didn't would naturally assume Monica was pregnant. Either Phoebe or Rachel could have been the one who took the test. My money is on Phoebe, just a hunch.

But keep in mind,, they could also have done this just as a cliffhanger device, because really, what else would there be for a cliffhanger???? When Ross married Emily a couple years ago, the cliffhanger was "What's Emily gonna do now that Ross said Rachel's name rather than hers?". Last year was the Vegas storyline..."will they or won't they get married?" With Chandler and Monica getting married, the only possible cliffhanger is a question of pregnancy.

The one thing we all know is, nothing is more boring on tv than a happy relationship. Good storytelling relies on conflict, right?

My theory is, The pregnancy was thrown in as a cliff hanger device, and unless Jennifer and Brad (Or Lisa and her husband) crank up the baby-making this summer, it will be a false-positive, and we'll get on with our lives, ending NEXT season with Monica's pregnancy.

Just my thoughts.

There's one more possibility...

It's a false positive. Next season, Rachel will go the gynocologist and verify her pregnancy, only to find out that she falsely tested positive. This is the door that NBC has left itself, in case neither of them are pregnant.

As to the presumptive father, it is probably Tag, even if it was a month ago. I seriously doubt it is Ross, and Joey? "Fuggetaboutit!"

Make sense. Why? Well, why do you think Rachel took the test in Monica's bathroom? If Joey finds it, the only person he can point to is Rachel, and if they slept together, he's likely to figure out he's the father, and I don't think Rachel wants to tell joey, since it was an obvious mistake. Also, notice that Joey was the only one of the 6 who doesn't know about the "baby"? Of course, he was filming a movie to know about it, but one by one everybody found out about the pregnancy test except for Joey.

It will be very interesting when October roles around. Oh well, only 5 more months. Tick tock, tick tock.

I definitly agree with all of that.

Except that it *is* believable. In my opinion, of course. After all, many people get cold feet right before they get married, so why wouldn't Chandler? It just took a little thing to make him snap, and it had probably actually been building inside him all this time.

Heck, even his mom said she was surprised that they didn't screw him up enough for it NOT to happen. ;)

Also, this sudden burst of fear is different than his old commitment phobia. Before, it was the usual fear of being tied down, clingy girlfriends, etc. But this wasn't. It was his own twisted view that if he went through with the wedding, he, as a Bing, would ruin their relationship, get divorced, and he would *hurt Monica*. He didn't want to hurt Monica, but in his fear, he couldn't see that running out on her would *obviously* hurt her just as much. ;)

My point is, it was a different fear.

I was half fooled. I figured it wouldn't be Monica, because that's just to obvious. I didn't, of course, know that it would be Rachel. Can't say I'm the most pleased, either.

Not me. ;) But then, I'm in the minority.

I'm not upset. I'm a huge C/M shipper, but I didn't *want* her to be pregnant so soon. I'd rather they get married first. And they did. And the wedding is what *I* can't stop thinking about.
