Something I noticed in TOW The Triplets…

Did anyone else think it was odd that Chandler, but not Ross, was in the delivery room with Phoebe before Frank Jr. arrived? I can understand Phoebe having Monica and Rachel (her female friends) with her, but it made no sense that Chandler was there, leaving Ross with Joey.

Other than the writers wanting Chandler with Monica, there was no reasoning behind Chandler being there. He should have been with Joey, his roommate and his best friend. Ross staying with Joey was pointless and made no sense.

Unlike Chandler, Ross has been through the whole birth ordeal (with Carol) and could have been more helpful to Phoebe. Ross would have been knowledgeable through his own experience and more supportive of Phoebe. In other words, Ross could have done more for Phoebe, than he could've for Joey.

Don't get me wrong---this didn't bother me that much. It just seemed strange, that's all….

True. Actually, I am not completely positive Phoebe really likes *either* Chandler or Ross enough to invite them to see her in such a vulnerable position. Joey, maybe, but this is what your husband and female relatives are for.

Well, these writers make a lot of illogical choices to accomodate pinpointed goals. They have to have one story for each character to be involved in every week, and if they are bound and determined to have character A interact with character B, they may not really care if Character C is left to fill a role better suited to A. This was not a serious error. We saw a much more badly written version of this problem the day they had Chandler helping Monica to set Rachel up on a blind date rather than dealing with Joey's money problems.

You point out some very good criticisms of the episode, ones that went right by me the first time I saw it. I was too consumed with disbelief with the absurdity (and not a good absurdity) of the whole "Dr. Fonzie" thing. This ep was a case of very bad writing and plotting, of very contrived events and "gags" that really fell flat.

Only Phoebe's goodbye scene at the end was good, but as a dad of two preschoolers, I am sucker for such scenes.

Or to look at the flip side, maybe none of them were really helping Pheobe, Ross has been there done that, so went to help Joey, and everyone else just wanted to watch the "miracle of childbirth".
