A Healthy Change
Matthew Perry wants to make one thing perfectly clear: He's clean.
The "Friends" star says that after years of ups and downs with drugs, illness and personal issues, he has his life in order.
"I've had my share of, you know, troubles with partying too much and going out too much," Perry says in the next issue of US Weekly. "I really lived life to its fullest and that got me in trouble from time to time. (But) I'm back on my feet again and totally fine." Perry entered rehab in 1997 to kick an addiction to painkillers and was hospitalized in May for pancreatitis, an illness he says resulted from too much time on the slippery side of the street.
"You play, you pay," he tells the magazine's Todd Gold.
But after the hospital, Perry realized it was time to start taking care of himself. And even though he may have looked too skinny on the season premiere of "Friends," Perry insists it was only a leftover effect from his illness.
"I was still healing. I couldn't eat more than chicken soup," he says. "By the second episode, you can see I'm better."
Perry knows now that his happiness depends not on drugs but on his friends.
"Jen's (Aniston) wedding was the most romantic night of my life, and I wasn' t even getting married," he says. "She was a beautiful bride. The unfortunate thing is, Brad (Pitt) is an ugly man, but you put a tuxedo on him and he looks okay."
