They may be "single" because they like to have lots of guys to date, not that good looking guys are afraid to ask, or are afraid that she may look better than they do.
I would love to be in college now, with the recent trends in US colleges leaning towards a 56% female population - must be nice!!! Although, I'd bet the highly technical classes are still 50 guys to every girl. Such a shame. . .

Most women look better than the guy they are with, it's a known fact. A guy should never be afraid to approach a woman. She human just like you. I've been in a few situations where the woman thought she could get rid of me by throwing insulting remarks at me. But that doesn't work on me, because I make sure that my remarks are more insulting. That shuts them up. I love those arrogant types. They're so easy to fight with. :-)

I'm not sure as to which environment you're in, but in highly technical classes in the Northwest, each and every semi-attractive girl had about 10 people actively pursuing her (i.e. sitting next to her in class, walking her home, meeting her for lunch, etc etc etc). Had to get their early just to pick a seat and hope she would sit where she did the day before. . .
Now had I joined a frat, maybe things would have been different. I just didn't want to share my room with 20 other guys my first year of college, nor be responsible for bringing the GPA of the frat-house up.
Right. One shouldn't be. But after getting shot down six or seven times in a row, you retreat and rethink, atleast I did.
Yup. Totally agree. They're reaction seems to be "how DARE you cross such a popular person such as myself!!".
This whole "attractiveness" thing is such a weird concept. Really attractive people seem to start thinking that not only are they what you want to look at and be with, but also that they somehow are more "insightful" into whatever topic comes up in a conversation. Some can't take a hint and wisely say nothing. Guys and gals both.
No Doubt!!. Where's a time machine when you need one. . .

We don't have any frathouses here, so I only have the ones in the movies to go on, but I don't think it would have been my scene. Things get a little too wild for my taste. Don't get me wrong....I was no study-geek, but I don't need a whole house of "brothers" to make me feel good about myself. I was never good in a crowd and I never tried to fit in with any of the "groups". I was always kind of an outsider. So back in the days of school, I wasn't that sucessful with girls. But that evolved with time.
I wasn't much different in the beginning. I just had to teach myself to be more confident. It's hard to explain.
I would usually just tell them to climb down out of that invisible ivory tower and mingle with the normal people for a while. I loved saying stuff like that right in front of their friends.

Frats weren't my bag either. I never joined one, but was asked if I was interested in pledging a decent one at the Univ. of Washington in Seattle my sophomore year. The cocky/arrogant rich kid with the Corvette on my dorm floor who was kissing everyone's ass to get into that frat was beside himself when the "country hic" (as he referred to me sometimes) from the "fields on the other side of the mountains" was asked to join, and he wasn't. (heh he heh. Randy still grins to himself when he thinks of this =) ) The rumor was it was a frat that was hard to get into, cuz they were very selective, and not really into the "Animal House" frat image, but rather a relaxed decency and sophistication. I guess they liked my awkwardly charming, but dorky intelligence. I don't know. I, however transferred colleges to a location that didn't have this frat on campus before anything became of it. I cant think of more examples. Maybe there arent any, but I still think theres a rather big possibility that it could exist in Friends. Resemblence can be based on opinions but mostly on facts. They may be actors but they are "supposed" to look the way they look. So Matthew Perry should be identical to Chandler. I mean, there would be no point to it if the actors didnt reseble the characters. In that case you could pick a short actor and he could play a tall character. You just have to pretend. :-) (My opinions): The point is, I think the actors do look like the characters, but the actors who plays in the series doesnt exist as actors (In the series). In the case of Bruce Willis either the actor Bruce didnt star in Die Hard, or Bruce looked different. Thats the most reasonable explanation. Or he looked like Bruce, but they didnt notice or care. :-)

I disagree.. I've seen Elle MacPherson in a movie ("Sirens", IIRC), and knew of her as a model prior to seeing her appearance on Friends, and if no one told me that Janine was played by Elle MacPherson, I don't think I would have known. So, I knew who Elle MacPherson was, but I was unable to tell the resemblance, simply because I didn't remember what she looked like (I think I always confuse her with another super model).

Hmm.. but with 6 people? And Joey/Chandler very into models.. and Janine went out in public a lot too...

It doesn't matter Alex. Maybe Joey chose her because she looked like Elle Macpherson. It means no more than Ross looking like Bob Saget.

No, they are not. Elle Macpherson really exists, she's the richest model in the world. Janine LeCroix is a dancer, merely a fictional character.
If she'd stayed in "Friends", we could have had an episode where Rachel took Janine to a charity fashion show, where Elle was amused to see this woman who resembled her, then all three of them drank coffee together.

I know what they are trying to convey, there are several exceptions you have to make for these kind of situations - No one would believe the Janine meeting Elle story, it's far too silly.
That, would be very bad TV.

In "The Jolson Story", released in 1946, the part of the great singer was played by Larry Parks. Three years later, the sequel "Jolson Sings Again" continued the biography to the point when Al Jolson did the singing voice for Parks in "The Jolson Story" - so of course there was a splendid scene where Larry Parks as Larry Parks met Larry Parks as Al Johnson.

This has been absolutely driving me mad, because I can remember seeing an actor playing himself on one of the few sitcoms I watch, and only a few episodes later he was playing a character instead. ..phew! Who'd have thought that there would be so many! I must sound a word of caution, since the above depends on the quality of the data in the IMDb. For example if someone thought an actor played himself when in fact he was playing a character, then there would be a false entry.
However, at least one is genuine, for Eddie Cibrian playing himself in "Sabrina, the Teenage Witch", and then Darryl only 3 episodes later, is the one that I've been trying to remember! Yay!

Doesn't count. The bands (with some exceptions - Amazulu, 9 Below Zero and Madness) were not part of the episodes' action, and cannot be "playing" themselves as for all intents and purposes they weren't even in it. The fact that Jools (among many many others) can be seen doing Subterranean Homesick Blues does not mean he was being Jools Holland at the time, neither.

Darryl was the milk-drinking yellow-clad hunky fireman that Sabrina's Aunt Zelda made for herself out of man dough. Yes but Friends is relating to real people, Sabrina is related to witches with magic...
