problem with a friends episode

I have an avi-file, which my media player can't play. When I try to play it, the windows media player tries to download a codec but it doesn't work. It's not possible to hear the sound. I can see the episode but without sound. AVI Information says, it uses 353 - Windows Media Audio Format . How can I play it?

Try to use another player, for example: DivX-Player 2.0 -> http://www.divx.com/divx/ ...and download the last DivX codecs i hope this will help

The link was a viagra-advertise... But I downloaded the smr-codec from www.divx-digest.com and it didn't work either. It's only the audio format which is a problem.

Hmmm, seems fine with me. What I'd suggest is getting media player 7. Uninstalling all your codecs and just installing DIVX 3 codec, then DIVX 4.

I can see the video "stream" if you can call it a stream. But I can't hear any sound. If anyone has this episode: Could you extract the audio stream from the avi and post it? Or could you post a link where I can download the audio stream only? I don't have a fast Internet connection and that's why I can't download the episode again. I have some files of That 70's show that say they are div3, but they have no sound. I would have thought it was because I don't have the correct codec except all my Friends episodes that say div3 play fine. So I'm not really sure how to correct the problem.

Before you go slaughtering a proven excellent coding system, I'd check out www.divxdigest.com and read up on it and the different versions to try and sort your problem out. I would suggest the SMR and nAVI codecs aswell.

This is the nimo codec, which I suggested piece of peace (sorry, don't know your name), tried in the first place. However I can run 702 without the need for the nimo codec pack. Which brings us back to whether the episode is faulty or not. I doubt that it is....

well it worked for me..... and i can play all episodes and seasons.... some can be out of sync now an then, but they still play :)

well if you read the first post in this tread.... it dosnt specify what episode is not working prperly..... so when i gave that url, that was just to accomodate most users needs in the sense that he may of been refering to a file other then a friends episode..... i found it useful, andi think ppl here will to0..... It is without a doubt a uesful codec to have, but there are only two episodes that need it, I have every single friends episode in AVI format, and only 306 "TOW the Flashback" and I think "404 TOW all the ballroom dancing".
