10-05: Worst anniversaries ever

So, we have the whole gang minus Joey in a room and the conversation comes to bad anniversaries, Phoebe just accidentally having ruined Mike's proposal to her on their anniversary. Chandler and Monica share a story about Monica buying an expensive watch for Chandler, while Chandler wrote her a rap song. Ross and Rachel however remain silent. Gee, those two must have always had great anniversaries............ For crying out loud, how could *that* be ignored? I am not saying there should have been a big dramatic scene, something like either of them saying "I don't think so" as a response to Phoebe's "I just had the worst anniversary ever" would've been enough - no matter how R+R feel now that breakup and the fact that it happened on their anniversary was nasty

Ummm.....the one and ONLY anniversary R&R had ended in the infamous "we were on a break" episode. You can't really classify that as a "good" anniversary. ~~~ Kathy

that was the point, genius. phoebe said she had the "worst anniversary ever," clearly hers was nowhere near as bad as ross and rachel's.

I believe it was worse than the R&R anniversary. At least P&M's anniversary included a marriage proposal -- genius. ~~~ Kathy

Good point. I thought I was the only one who noticed it. R&R's relationship ended on their first anniversary, and their failure to mention it seemed like a glaring omission.

I chalked it up to the fact that the writers are setting us up for the R&R reunion and don't want to remind us of the many negative aspects of their history as a couple. I think the omission was both intentional and significant.
