OS(Old Subject) Similarities between The Simpsons and Family Guy

A few off the top of my head

Not on the list as being too common: The show is an animated sitcom about a family

1. Father who acts retarded most of the time, mom seems of normal intelligence

• Mom who has an unusual voice

• Father is fat, Wife is average weight

• Family consists of an infant, two older children and a dog

5. Father has several friends, one of whom is black, but he doesn't sound black (I hope that isn't a racist thing to say)

• One of father's friends is a single, creepy letch

7. Family lives in a house much bigger than they should be able to afford (maybe this shouldn't be on the list because this is universal on TV. You always see a guy working a job that in reality would pay maybe $55,000/year supporting a stay-at-home spouse, three kids, a new car, wearing designer clothes and living in a five bedroom mansion in the suburbs.)

8. Animated characters have an unusual feature, eyes which consist of large circles with pinpoint pupils

One thing the two show's dont have in commen: Family Guy is funny and the Simpson's is beyond played out!

Lois doesn't have a very unusual accent for someone from Quohag, RI. Marge just sounds like someone from a 1970s sitcom.

Maybe not so much racist as just provincial? Maybe you haven't been around many different black people. Do all white people sound the same to you? Based on your comment about Lois's voice, maybe you haven't been around many different white people, either.

What show are you watching? Homer usually drives a broken down station wagon, and his wife wears the same simple clothes almost all the time.

You can get a lot more house than you might expect, in some parts of the country. I wouldn't call any of those places mansions. But Homer is the senior safety officer at a nuclear power plant, and lives in what seems to be a typical middle class house in his town. Median annual earnings of nuclear engineers were $81,350 in 2002, with the highest ten percent earning more than $111,260. As for Family Guy, maybe that's a typical house for where they live, but maybe you're missing part of the back story: he's married to a woman whose family is extremely wealthy "old money" (occasionally a source of conflict in their lives).

Sure the characters are somewhat similar (Husband, Wife, Son, Daughter, Infant and Dog), but Family Guy's characters have much better personalities. Yes, Homer and Peter are fat, stupid people. But Peter is much more stupid (remember the episode where he's legally retarded?), and ignorant than Homer. Lois is quite similar to Marge. I'll hand that one to you. But she's definately funnier at times, and has a more dynamic, risk taking personality. Chris is stupid too, and completely oblivious to a lot of things going on, whereas Bart is the prankster and mischievous kid (he was funny for a few episodes, but the whole Dennis the Menace theme really grew old). Meg is completely unpopular and miserable, where Lisa is unpopular, but not nearly as miserable. It's at least funny to see Meg get treated like crap all the time. Lisa was just boring. Finally, Stewie and Brian do what Maggie and Santa's Little Helper can never do. Be 2 out of 3 of the most popular and funny characters on the show. Who can't love a maniacal baby that's trying to kill his mother and rule the world, plus a dog who can freaking talk, drink beer, and make some great witty jokes?

It was funny once, but the joke never gets funny again no matter how 'over-the-top' they go with it.
