Simpsons (now) suck, pass it on.

Much has been already said about the "Peter" cameo in Simpsons. I do think it was an intentional dig at FG. Simpsons stopped being funny in 1996, soon after that they had used up every possible plot. Don't get me wrong, "old school" Simpsons is still hard to top, as they had real writers. The "new" simpsons have fucking DANA GOULD writing. Well, in the defense of the new writers, they could have shakespeare as the head writer of the Simpsons now, and it would not have do any good. "General Chaos" Episode from southpark put it best,"SIMPSONS DID IT." Every possible plot has been done.

I originally dismissed FG as a Simpsons Rip Off, but after actually being
able to see more than two episodes on a regular basis (thanks to fox), I
slowly got them all, and now after seing every episode several times, I
cannot watch the (new) Simpsons ever again.   Homer and Peter are two
separate entities.  Homer is just dumb and Peter is a dumbass, both Classic.
FG's main characters are much stronger than the simpsons.  Stewie and Brian
could have their own show.   FG's humor was also more abrasive than the
simpsons cookie cutter sitcom.  If you were a casual veiwer, you could be
easily turned off by FG's "laughter with knives."    For intance, when peter
does his "You are ruining this country," speech in front of the million
black guys, I was pissing on myself.  BUT, if someone had turned in at the
wrong time, they would have been very offended.

Lastly, FG's humor was specifically targeted at Generation X and ONLY at Generation X. Generations before Gen X would get most of the jokes, like Tron, Connect four, Incredible hulk, etc, but anyone born after 1984 would most likely not get most of the jokes. Simpsons now panders to 12 year olds, hence the higher ratings. Man, I am still so pist that FG was cancelled. It's a shame that nobody picked it up.

I know the feeling. I've also watched all the FG episodes several times and I must confess to liking FG more. The laughs come hard and fast, and the gags that don't quite work are still likable, whereas the bad Simpsons gags just fall flat. One of the things in The Simpsons' favor is that the show has much more social commentary.

I was initially put off by FG's many flashbacks, but once you get used to them you wonder how The Simpsons do without them :-)

I don't think we need to blame the lack of new plots for the decline of The Simpsons. There bad gags simply outnumber the good gags. The show just seems to be aimed at stupid people (not meaning to offend any fans!).

Oh, and Peter's appearance in the Simpsons can be seen as both complimentary and insulting. It is open to interpreatation, unless you already know the writers' attitude towards FG. As for myself, the more I think about it, the more it seems like they're saying Peter is a cheap clone of Homer.

Keep in mind that if FG would've stayed on the air for 14 (?) years instead of The Simpsons, it too would've suffered from having every possible plot done to death.

I 've laughed out loud for the new Simpsons eps. I agree it has rebounded from the horrendous season 11, and yes it has gotten stale, as in every plot has been done, but I think the fact that i can still laugh in every episode after 13 season is something. I thought Family Guy was gonna be the heir apparent to The Simpsons, but life is cruel, family guy is the funniest quality cartoon right now.

I've laughed at a few of them, though I was disappointed with the masked Battlebots reference last week. I taped it for what reason? ;)

Its stuff that gets repeated around here, though, that makes my heart hurt. Like Screamerpillar (whatever the title is, I'm not sure), which gets repeated almost WEEKLY. I wish they'd show the ones that made me love the show in the first place instead of the ones that turned me from watching years ago.

I've started back watching The Simspsons again, however, cause I'm running outta cartoons (FG, Zim, etc.).
