Oh my god. 8 is enough parody!

OK, so I've never seen this episode (Brian, Portraid of a Dog) on the air, and always had watched my crappy real media copy, and the opening, as I saw it, always had the girl saying 'oh dad, that's your solution to everything!', at which point the dad stares at her, gives her a dirty look, and then it cuts to the entire family who are all staring in disbelief at the TV screen. Which to be honest, I never found all that funny.

But I grabbed a quicktime version of the episode, and it's slightly different, after the girl says 'that's your solution to everything', the father gets a really mean look on his face, and proceeds to punch and hit her 8 times. The other daughter comes in, stops him, and says 'Dad, 8 is ENOUGH'. And they all laugh.

I assume this is censorship, as it did really catch me off guard the first time...but still, quite funny...

Just wondering if anyone else had missed this portion of the episode?

maybe there was a stutter in the video, and they weren't really staring in disbelief, they were just frozen

I think he was referring to the Griffin family staring in disbelief as opposed to the Eight is Enough family, which is indeed how the scene plays out in its entirety; Nicolas upset, I'll make him a sandwich, that's your solution to everything, *slap* *slap* *slap* (x8), stop Dad, and then cut to the Griffin family seated on the sofa staring with wide eyes at the television set in their living room.

I'm actually surprised they showed as much of that gag as they did, when the actual [*ahem*] "punchline" was removed from the scene. Without it, the gag would seem to illustrate nothing more than how terribly boring and sickeningly sweet Eight is Enough was. ( Heh, and as I remember NOTHING about that show except those very points, maybe a gag like that would work!) Maybe it was the actual hitting that caused U.S. censors to pull it, maybe it was the fact that everyone shrugged it off and laughed about it afterwards, but I always found more risque the scene from "Holy Crap" where the Brady kids come running down the stairs and Cindi stops and says, "I don't want to tattle, but is Bobby *really* a doctor?"

No, the first time it was aired, they showed the part, then it was censored for the re-runs.
