The commentary is utterly worthless

If you're buying the FAMILY GUY DVD set for the commentary, forget it.

Jim Wynorski's commentary for the THE BARE WENCH PROJECT 2 was more enlightening. And no, that's not a compliment.

We have five people sitting in the commentary chair to give useful input, and no one says anything for more than 30 seconds at a stretch. In fact, no one says anything useful related to the episode in question, ever.

I like the show, but goddamn. If you just wanted to buy for the special features, save yourself the trouble and tape Adult Swim.

I heard the commentary for most of the first ep last night and I hate to say it but I have to agree so far. At one point I wondered if the commentary feature had somehow turned itself off. There was several minutes of 'dead air'- bad form.

Well they DID record commentary for EVERY episode, but FOX only included two per disc. For all we know, they could've included the less talkative ones, because they were the "least offensive." I know one commentary at the end near the Fuzzy Door logo, someone asked Seth why the company was Fuzzy Door, and he said he'd address it in the next commentary. Of course the next episode didn't have commentary, because FOX cut it. Assholes.

Hmm... And you think those disclaimers they do put at the beginning of the discs when you do play the commentary tracks would've saved them the trouble of not being sued by anyone for having them say what could be the lease offensive anyway. Pure irony!

That's such a dumb tease. Now I wonder why did MacFarlane called the company "Fuzzy Door"? Perhaps Greg knows!

Kinda figured someone back then had this taste in decor that led to such a concept. Kinda had this thought of how possible it is that anyone would've found a scrap of a shag carpet stapled to the door to be such an ideal thing to do. I'll have to begin that trend!

I was indeed expecting a bit more from the commentary myself. Because of the nature of the site I run, I was hoping for more explanation of those crazy references no one knows the history of - but alas, I didn't get it.

It IS fun to hear the FG characters using profanity tho. Sad when that's the highlight of the commentaries, yes?

Perhaps the problem was not having enough ACTORS in the booth ... writers don't typically like public speaking (nor are they usually very good at it); when you get Alex and Seth going, you get some damn entertaining stuff vice "so and so wrote that joke ... so and so wrote that joke" (which to some, I'm sure, is interesting).

I'm just happy to have'em.

Heh, I remember that one! It was from the mid '80s I believe.

If there was one reference I wished they did on the show, it should've been having a bull crash into a party. This would be a reference to an ad campaign that Schlitz Malt Liquor did in the early '80s where a bull crashes through buildings where people were getting knocked out on Schlitz (usually seen at the end of the commercial). I have a few of these commercials on tape to verify (I could be wrong if that was a different brand but I don't have time to check now).

I don't know, they seem to be the highlight of the Simposns sets-at least from what I've heard. Actually the best commentary I've heard yet was Larry the cucumber & Mr. Lunt on Jonah: A Veggie Tales Movie. The movie was a bit of a bore but the commentary was freakin' great.

There's an explanation for that, but it sounds more believable coming out of someone like Sweet Zombie Jesus.

I agree. Started watching, I think the 1st one w/commentary, and Alex says, "I always like on this show the jammies with feet. That's cute", or something to that effect. Then there was about 5 seconds (or more) of silence. I was thinking, "That's it?!?".
