Also, what makes you think someone ratted on you? Don't you think that possibly your bandwidth use looked a little strange to the admins of your school's network? Also, did your main index page bring you to the goodies? I mean if you had a hidden directory then someone snooping on your network wouldn't be able to find the stuff. They would have had to find a URL that pointed them to the correct hidden directory.
You should post some statistics about your server. I'd be interested in seeing how much was transferred, etc.

It will have happened because the new pages with the links were put on the school server rather than keeping the download pages on the laptop - note that the SHN page is not on the school server and they have not shut that down (yet anyway) They probably just looked on the school pages and saw the episodes there.

That can't be it. The link he sent me was http://128.113.195.108/Shared/movies. That is a directory on my computer, not the static page I just made and put on my webspace. Also the SHNs are completely legal, that's why they weren't pointed out.
On the front page are links directly to Movies and FG eps. The original e-mail only pointed to the movies part. After I e-mailed the guy back and said it was gone, he said "Oh, btw, I looked a little further and found that you also have some other violating material," referring to the FG eps. So originally all he knew about was the movies, even thought the FG eps are clearly advertised right next to the movies. Also, the eps take a lot more bandwidth than the movies, as they're more popular and there are more of them.

mmm... just a little (: I don't have too much control over it. I can control how many connections are open, but I can't control the bandwidth, so it just shoots up to 10Mbps either way. Besides, this started last October and nobody said a word until now.

They don't have binaries. You can find any software, movie, or game you can imagine on our private network. Search here: http://celery.n.ml.org and you'll be jealous (: You can't actually download from that page, since we're firewalled. But that search page and another are fully funded by the school (and run by computer science majors) since file sharing is essential on campus (we're a very computer-oriented school; everyone is required to have a laptop, which is used in most classes).

Yes. Like I said, the school funds two powerful network search tools, and they have definitely spent a LOT on the campus network. They're almost to the point of have ethernet connections growing in the grass. You can be connected anywhere on campus. And it's all very fast.
You're forced to buy one when you first come. They offer a special deal on one each year that has all the appropriate software and good hardware specs for a decent price. There is also free tech support and reinstallation of all this software.
