FTP site for FG eps

Hey all - just wanted to let you know that I'm making my FG eps available on an FTP site. I have most of Season 3 and a few Season 2. They are all SVCD quality - MPEG2, 480x480. I have personally created many, many SVCDs and played them on my Apex DVD player from these files; the quality is very good on a 32" TV. Of course, the files are nearly 400 MB in size so it will take a while to download ... but who cares? :) Just leave it downloading overnight or something ... (my ISP provider limits uploading to around 43.5 KBps for all users combined, which sucks).

I will continue to record new eps as they are broadcast, and they will usually be available within a day or two. I can't guarantee the FTP site will always be up during the day (since it's on my home computer), but it should be at night / overnight when I'm not recording TV programs.

A couple of things: 1) No uploading; I'm trying to save the bandwidth for downloading only. 2) You don't necessarily have to provide your real email address, just something that looks like a valid one.

'please supply REAL email address' - i have tried several 'real' email addresses and get the same error msg each time....

how about making an account with username/password of 'anon' or 'FG' or summat? you can see who's using it by IP just as easily as by email address (I'm assuming most people wont be using their real email address anyway....)

Use a different client. I use BulletProof FTP, which works perfectly. For some reason, the latest version of CuteFTP goes weird when you try to log on anonymously.

How do you play them? I've downloaded the latest episode from your server, and I tried playing it with Windows Media Player. It started looking for a codec, and came up empty-handed shortly after and refused to play the file. Is a special codec needed in order to play SVCD-files?

Probably a codec problem. To play MPEG-2 files you either need a software DVD player installed on your computer (WinDVD is the one I use, trial versions of that or others can be downloaded for free) or need the MPEG-2 codec from some other source to allow Windows Media Player to play the file correctly. MPEG-2 files won't normally play correctly on a computer without the proper codecs installed, and WMP doesn't download them for you.

The alternative (if you have a DVD player that can play SVCDs) is to burn the file on a CD in SVCD format (see vcdhelp.com for more info) and watch it via your DVD player.
