Ending to "DaBoom"

LMAO. I'm sorry I missed this ep when it first ran. I wonder how many people didn't get it.

I didn't get it seeing it the first time. I never watched Dallas in the 80's, seeing as I was only 9 years old in 1986. Then I saw the Dallas dream sequence mentioned in I Love the 80's on VH1 and the lightbulb went on. I get 99% of the other 80's references though.. =)

sorry to jump in here, but I just watched "DaBoom" for the third time, and the closing "Dallas" footage seems convincingly true to the period. how the hell did they pull that off? am I missing something here?

In a nutshell, Patrick Duffy's character was killed. As the series went on and the fans freaked out about it, it was decided to bring him back. So, just as the FG scene replays it, his wife awakes to hear someone in the shower and there's ole Patrick all sudsy. The whole thing had just been a dream. What a relief ;) It's been a few decades, but that's how I remember it.

Yeah, essentially an entire year's worth of storylines were all wiped out. Bizarre stuff, they don't make em like that anymore!

The most recent occurance of this I can remember is in Married With Children. I think Katie Segal was pregnant and they wrote that into the script. And after she had her baby (or was it stillborn) in real life, they just wrote it out of the script and made a joke about it. It's also hilarious how they wrote that little adopted son, Seven, out of the picture at the end. He was never mentioned of again, like Peter and Lois' second daughter. Haha, anyone remember when Chris mentions the second daughter that Meg killed and the parents tell him he was just dreaming?

Wiping out a mere season with a wacky dream scenerio is nothing. Both "Newhart" and "St. Elsewhere" had their entire series run exposed as nothing but a dream in each show's final episode.

Does anyone remember when the final season of Roseanne went into that lottery tangent, then in the end it was all a story Roseanne had written and Dan had actually died? That just killed me. That was truly the worst final season to any quality series I've ever had to endure. That show ended 2 seasons later than it should have.

Nothing beats St. Elsehwere. Finding out that a 6 year series run was nothing more than the overactive imagination of an autistic child still holds the title of most surprising plot twist ever.

You know, one thing I've noticed is how horrible they end a TV series. Why is it they like to make the characters so pathetic in the end? I noticed they did that to Peter when he was unemployed, got lazy & fat...ter. And Viewer Mail, in my opinion, wasn't the best way to go out..though I'm not sure if they knew that was going to be their last episode. You didn't get to see the Griffins as they really are. I don't watch the Simpsons anymore, but I caught a few minutes recently and Homer's been unemployed for a while. I've noticed this with many shows, and like you mentioned, Seinfeild's ending left you feeling actually sorry for the characters, not cuz it was sad, but cuz they're going out in such an idiotic way. Reminds me of a website called jumpedtheshark.com where they lists the moments when a TV show went downhill. Okay, I'll stop ranting now.

Cheers was about the only one who didn't try and do something wacky. The series ended with Sam closing the bar for the night and heading home, just like any other day. It was fantastic.

PS- Homer isn't unemployed, they've just (pretty much) exhausted all writing ideas involving Homer at work, so it seems they're focussing on him in his life outside work now. When it's convienent for the plot, however, he's right back there in his chair at the plant with Burns and Smithers watching through the security cameras...

I didn't mind the Seinfeld finale. IMHO the worst finale ever was the last episode of "Night Court". Bull an alien?

Diff-rent Strokes - They brought in Sam for the cute factor. Mr. Drummond had all this marriage drama w/ Maggie. I don't think I ever saw the finale though.

Alf - I have no clue what happened, wasn't a favorite show of mine. Did he ever go back to Melmac?

Three's Company - Let's see. They all moved out. Jack got married, got a spin-off show where he runs his bistro. I think it was called Three's a Crowd.

The problem with the Seinfeld finale (and X-Files too actually) was that they just recapped the series. I don't understand why writers think we want to see a clip show of the entire series when it ends. Anyone who cares about the show and will want to see a decent finale will already be well aware of happenings on the show.

Of course, I did mention that I haven't actually seen the finale for X-Files, but rather I merely heard it was a cheap wrap up of what happened from the begining so it's very possible that they did this and I'm just shooting my mouth off...

The aforementioned Dallas ended with a cliffhanger. There are plenty of shows like ALF that unintentionally ended on cliffhangers... cancelled before they could conclude them.

Heh... Once in a while the opposite happens. Everyone involved with the show "Sledge Hammer!" was convinced that the show would not be renewed at the end of the season, so in the last show they blew up the entire city and everyone in it. Then they _were_ renewed, so the show came back as "Sledge Hammer, The Early Years". Definitely had me ROTFL.

Sledge Hammer. I remember that show. Funny as hell. I wonder why they didn't translate it into a move like they did with Police Squad.
