I just about died laughing when he over pronounced "WWWWhen" and "WWWWhat" in succession on last night's episode. Maybe he's always done this but I just noticed.

Jack = nickname for John
Works for either. I still say Jacob is John Locke.
But Jacob isn't a nickname for John/Johnathan. Jacob is a name in it's own right.
You're going from a name to a nickname (that's not used in this case) to another similar name, when you go from John to Jacob.
You're just going from a name to another similar name when you go from Jack to Jacob.

Just pointing out the fact that Jack is the most common nick for someone named John. Jake would be the most obvious nickname for Jacob...not Jack. Just because the first three letters are the same doesn't seem like much to base a theory on. Hey it could be neither turns out to be Jacob. I'm just stating my hunch. I think it would be pretty cool if Locke meets his future in the cabin.
Either would be cool, IMO =D
