Clean up yer posts please.

When you post a follow up, delete the text thats quoting the above posts. It is hard to find your information. It's easy to do, just highlight and delete it all before you start typing unless there is something you want to quote.

It's good to always have a quote from at least the immediate message you're replying to, directly below your text for reference.

When to quote is a little more up-for-grabs. For example, I leave in the entire quote here because it helps to demonstrate my point. If I were responding to single statement I would delete the rest of the quote and leave that. Generally people who are reading a group have either already read what you're following up or they can look it up on google.

Of course, *some people* might think that scrolling to the end of a message is too difficult... I'm not mentioning any names but it starts with an `A' and ends with an `ndy Howard.' :) Hehehe

Depends on the news reader, outlook express always starts you above the previous posters comments while newsreaders like Pan (Unix) tell you that its a bad idea. I just post on top because too lazy to scroll ;))

And Outlook Express starts you at the top of the thread because it is a piece of shit made by those bastards at Microsoft. Of course, here I am using Windows 2000... But I don't use Outlook! I use Eudora for email and Agent for news. In Agent I can *email* a followup to an article rather than posting it with just the click of a button or a press of a single key.

Andy, you might want to try a different mail reader. Get something that can filter and sort. It really helps. I think even the dreaded Outlook Express has filtering capability, although, I may be mistaken.

You don't have to be `special' in everything you do! Just quote above using a single `>' and everything will be uniform. Programs will be able to automatically color quotes as to their author and the world will be at peace.

I'll list a few responses to this so people don't have to feel obligated to do it themselves: "Wah, I don't <blank> to please you! I <blank> because I like the way it looks!." "Shut up, anal-man."

Also, you can conveniently hop to the end of your message by using Ctrl-End, which uses less energy than holding down the down arrow or scrolling and clicking. If that doesn't work, try Ctrl-Alt-Delete-Delete, where Delete is tapped twice in quick succession.

The reason I say on top of the quote is because 9 times out of 10, the reader has just read the post you replied to, and doesn't need to reread the quote to get to the reply; the new text should be right in front of him. However, when referring to individual bits of a message one at a time, it makes more sense to trim the quote as much as possible then (after leaving a space) reply directly below it, as follows.

Exactly. People read the posts in succession, so the quoting should only be used as a reference, not as part of the message.

And for the record, I use Netscape, not OE. Netscape 4.7 is the best text newsreader I've found, and I've tried a lot of newsreaders.
