Okay, this episode was great, and the last 5 minutes, where they're basically all killing each other made it hard for me to breathe. But I don't quite get the scene in the bar where Peter goes "Krypton sucks" and Lois throws those three people into that square. I take it they are from "Superman" but what was with the whole two-dimensional thing?

Those were the villains from Superman II. In the beginning of the first Superman movie they were banished to the "Phantom Zone" by putting them inside the spinning 2 dimensional thingy. It's basically a window to that other dimension where the villains were (supposed to be) trapped for eternity, never aging and watching the universe pass them by.

Yup indeed that's a Superman reference, or specifically, Superman II. Those three are General Zod, Non and Ursa, three criminals who were banished from Krypton; they were put into "The Phantom Zone" (the two-dimensional thing) as a sort of eternal prison and sent out into space presumably forever. But rather sneakily, Krypton blew up, and so they were the only other survivors apart from Superman. Anyhoo in Superman II a nuclear bomb thrown into space by Superman breaks the phantom zone so they come to Earth to basically take over. Funnily enough one of the first things they do on Earth is walk into a local bar and casually beat the crap out of everyone in there, so it was hilarious to see Lois give them a taste of their own medicine. Jeez ok that was probably too long of an explanation...
