What?! Do you have any idea what you are talking about. It has to do with the millions of people watching. Even UPN gets better then 2.9% of the viewing audiance.

No, I think I'm right. I remember when Survivor 2 was #1 in the ratings last year they got about 27 Nielsen points every week and someone on ET said that equaled about 40 million viewers.

A "rating" is the percentage of all TV households being measured*. A "share" is the percentage of TV households being measured that were using their TVs at the time. So, a national rating of 2.9 means 2.9% of all U.S. TV households were tuned in to that show. A share of 2.9 would mean that 2.9% of TV households who were watching TV at the time were tuned in to that show. Since no show ever will pull in 100% of all TV households that were using their TV at the time, share is always higher than rating for any given show.

The ratings would be a lot better if they'd cut out the sick sex humor. I'm not a prude or anything, I like internet porn like the next guy, but most sex stuff they throw into FG is retarded. And just there in an attempt to get people to watch. Now Family guy is a very clever show, and doesn't need cheap sex jokes to be funny. In fact, it would be much more enjoyable without that crap.

That last episode went too far, an underage girl in bondage, about to get molested by the pervert guy. She was a highschool cheerleader, so we have to asssume she was a teenager. Besides that, even if she was not a teenager, it's no better. Sexual assault is not a joke. WTF has happened to people? They are so jaded and callous these days.

A baby with sexual desires is just weird and disturbing, and not funny. I guess it's funny to an idiot with a 60 IQ. Or someone with an extremely undeveloped sense of humor.

Anyways, I tend to not watch the show regularly because I know there's going to be a few sick sex jokes thrown in there for the idiots.

as many jokes as there are about quagmire being a pervert, we rarely ever see him actually do anything. the joke is usually left up to the viewer's imagination (what did YOU think he was gonna do to her? i thought "ha that silly quagmire" and flipped the channel) and also indirectly makes the idea of him doing something to her taboo (since we never see it happen). i dont think the sex jokes are any more distasteful than the rest of the jokes.

Remember the Chester the Molester cartoon in Hustler Magazine? If you don't remember it, it was to be a regular feature in the mag, and the first one portrayed a adult male on a bed with with 2 very young girls next to him all tied up and gagged. What do you think the artist that drew that wanted us to think? Anyway, Hustler got a lot of flack from even it's readers for that, and pulled the cartoon. If you can't understand how this corellates to the FG episode, I give up on you.

I have to disagree with you there. There's also a difference between adult humor and sick humor. The simpsons is extremely tame compared to FG. The humor concerns consenting adults, homer and marge getting it on, and so forth. I haven't been watching many of the new simpsons episodes lately though. Even the one a few years ago where homer got accused of sexual harrasment was not tastless. I can't recall anything they've done that was downright sick and tasteless. I can't even recall an erection joke. One that bothered me a bit was where Homer got raped by the Panda in the Zoo. Mr. Burns was paying him to do crazy things for his amusement. That was too "dark", and just didn't come across as funny. Was not like the Simpsons at all.

Almost every sitcom I can think of has sexual banter in it. It's all concerning consenting adults though. Sitcoms couldn't get away with something like that last scene of FG. Strange how a cartoon is able to get away with such. Just because it's not real people has no bearing on anything. You could even say the filmed images of people on TV are not real. Characters played by actors are not real people, they're imaginary. The important thing is the image or idea that's conveyed.

cartoons are certainly different. look at wyle e coyote, falling off the cliff or blowing himself up, or elmer fudd going hunting. it would be completely different if a live-action human did these things. the fact that they're cartoons (and they don't even closely resemble humans if you think about it -- look at chris' face, lois' nose, quagmire's chin) tells the reader they are just laughable *unhuman* characters, not intended to represent real life people at all. heck, brian talks like a sophisticated adult, and so does baby stewie. it should be blatantly obvious at first glance of the show that these characters are extremely far-fetched and meant to provoke laughs, not philosophical thoughts about human nature.

They also imply Quagmire has done some naughty stuff in another episode (Emission Impossible) where he is about to say something that is in accordance with Megan's Law (a law requiring sexual offenders to notify the community).

So, they suggest that Quagmire is a bad person, but they've never shown it.

I would also agree, in general, that sexual assault is not humorous. Although, I can find humor in things that realistically wouldn't be funny. Ever hear a Polish joke? A racial joke? A dead baby joke? I believe that this falls into that type of category.

Now, I know that the argument will come up that such jokes can be used as an attack on a group, but I also think people need to put some critical thought into the situation to determine if that was the intent.

Family Guy is what I think of as kitchen sink comedy. The creators throw anything and everything at the audience to make them laugh. That includes jokes that are unusually edgy, sick and warped by network TV standards. Indeed, there are many surprisingly crude gags. Personally, these tend to make me gasp and laugh all the harder.

It's an acquired taste. Not for children, not for genteel folks, and certainly not for the mainstream audiences.

That's why i like it I guess: It's edgy and SO not mainstream, this show's got balls.

How can you find anything on Family Guy offensive? Your alias is conceived from a postage stamp bit on Late Night wherein Christ was depicted in crude manner (at least to all the religious conservatives without a sense of humour I bet he was).
