All I was saying is the same people distribute every movie (for example you could d/l Fantastic Four the day after it came out in the theatre's), and every cd comes out on the net before it ever hits store shelves. Sure, some guy (or gal) ruined the suprise and many of the technically savvy fans will have already seen it when they buy the DVD but they will still buy it, because it is the official copy.
BTW it was a great movie!

Wild speculation from my part, but methinks that you probably don't have any sort of profit-sharing clause on your employment contract. Therefore, whether the DVD sells 3 copies or 30 million, the end result is that you, personally, are still no better (or worse) off. You've already got paid for your work, and that's the end of it.

FWIW, you can bet I'll be in line to buy it the very day it hits the shelves, even if I do see it before then.
I've never understood this about the entertainment industry: The royalty system. Bridgebuilders don't get money in perpetuity for every car that drives over their bridges. They are paid for their work once and that's that. I suspect entertainment crew are paid similarly. What makes actors, writers, etc. any different?

I actually didn't even work on this project (I was directing 8 Simple Rules for Buying my Teenage Daughter and other episodes at the time)....but this event has truly hurt my friends. If you could only see the look on their faces when they found out. I know - most people never see how things work behind the scenes, so it doens't affect you personally. I'm just trying to let you know how things like this affect people, on a personal level.

I write software for a living, so I've very familiar with piracy and what it can do for morale. "Fortunately" I mostly write middleware apps that are rather useless without "the whole system" (which can't be downloaded) so I've never had my work pirated, per se, but be aware that I've *very* aware of the ramifications.
As long as it doesn't get you unemployed, you and I at the bottom of the corporate ladder shouldn't worry too much about these things. You should be grateful that FG is such a great thing that a large portion of the pirates will probably end up buying it anyway. That's rather unique.

Amazing the kind of stuff that post-production houses can get away with if they're not careful, usually one or two guys who might see something and go, let's sneak this out or do whatever they can to make a copy for themselves, and that's how the ball starts rolling.
I thought it was a letdown...
