Where have you been? This week is the last FG. I know Futurama is gone too, but at least it will air out its run for a few months.

What about Futurama? How can they keep the Simpsons & dump Futurama?

I'm an optimist... The "official" wor d hasn't come down yet (ie press release).

I hear some of his shows are OK, but he abandons them (and lets them go to hell) to make new shows.

Titus is the most funny show that i have ever encountered in my 21 year life span. Family Guy is a very close 2nd and the simpsons are 3rd followed by futurama as a near 4th. God damn any one who knocks my 4 favorite shows who by them selves make Wendesday, thursday and Sunday survivable.

Does the fact it's largely based on reality disturb you? A lot of people are weirded out that Titus shows his dysfunctional family to the whole nation.

I've noticed, people that come from dysfunctional families LOVE that show. There were some rather moving comments posted on Jump the Shark about it.

I think it's an alright show... I think it's pretty much Stacy Keach alone that makes that show, though.

Every sitcom is about a disfunctional family. I hate that Titus has to mug at the camera and basically tell you the joke in those black and white segments, then show you the joke....then set up the next joke..then show you the joke. I don't think any one on that show can act..they basically just yell lines at each other.

Since "The Simpsons" and "Roseanne", you mean? I can't see how "The Cosby Show" and its ilk would qualify as dysfunctional.

Married...With Children predates all of the above. It is probably the first dysfunctional sitcom in this country. (There may have been earlier shows in the U.K., etc.)

Um, "All in the Family." 1971-79. Anybody want to go earlier? (I didn't feel like arguing for "I Love Lucy.")

I think the earlier poster hit it - normal families aren't funny; there's always a little dysfunction in a sitcom. "Married...With Children" might have been the earliest show that was funny despite the viewers hating every character.

I tactfully disagree. I didn't forget about "All in the Family" when I mentioned "Married...With Children."

MWC is a true dysfunctional sitcom in that all the main characters were very flawed in one way or another, and it would be safe to say in many ways. They also openly expressed their disrespect of one another, this being repeated between every main character and every other main character. Al & Peg often openly despised one another and even pursued other romantic interests, though mostly in jest. As the show "matured," the few loving moments they had disappeared altogether.

All in the Family, on the other hand, was a family that definitely loved one another, but had frequent disagreements. Edith, though a dingbat, was not hateful. Archie, though racist, had a good heart.

In a similar vein, Absolutely Fabulous (BBC) was groundbreaking in that the main characters had no redeeming qualities at all and expressed no shame about this. Though sensible and clean-living, even Saffie was vicious in her criticism of her mother and friend.

I pretty much agree. Titus is different in that it is supposedly heavily based on reality and that the characters are not usually mean just to be mean. In MWC, the audience was expected to understand that the characters just didn't like each other.

Yes, I think so. In MWC, it also seems to be dysfuctional for dysfunction's sake alone. FG's dysfunction is cartoonish (duh) and is often not very consistent with the plots or general personality of the character. Prime examples are Peter's moments of incredible callousness towards Lois. The dysfunction in AbFab was quite malicious, imo, but it was unrelenting to the point of absurdity and generally, the characters did their best to be witty in their hatred, like extreme, over-the-top sarcasm.

I have a hard time with MWC because the writing wasn't very sharp usually, generally choosing to go with very obvious "humor."

Cybill was an Americanized version of AbFab, but I never saw it. Anyone else?
