Pathetic maude scene

The whole way too long scene with the long theme from maude was painful. If you dont have enough decent material to fill the episode then show a rerun. I have always been a fan of the show but scenes like that really piss me off

The whole POINT of the scene was how the Maude theme ran way too long! That was the joke.

It has some interesting references to various history-making women. The real Maude theme only mentions 3 or 4, before going "And then there's Maude." The "Family Guy" bit made me realize that the writer of the "Maude" theme probably really did write a lot more material which had to be was thrown out for brevity's sake.

I've heard the "full" version of the "All in the Family" theme, which goes on for about two minutes. (One of the funnier lines in this extended version has Archie singing "Freaks were in a circus tent.") AFAIK, it was never used on the TV series, but was available exclusively on the "All in the Family" LP record available in the early 1970's.

I would like to hear some more "extended" TV show themes on "Family Guy." How about a longer "Star Trek" theme, which elaborates on the Enterprise's mission as being much more than "to seek out new life and new civilizations"?

Didn't remember that one. But, without checking, do you recall which show "Maude" was a spin-off of? Ten seconds... <tick> <tick> <tick> (The answer's in the headers.)

I had forgotten about that episode, and don't remember the Catholic thing at all. But, it's not surprising. That show was one of the "Family Guys" of its day.

You're probably thinking of Good Times, which was actually a spinoff of Maude.

Archie Bunker's Place wasn't so much a spinoff. It was more of a continuation of All in the Family.

I had forgotten about that one. I'd call it more of a "poorly conceived sequel" than a spinoff (unless you count the house as principal character of AITF ;) ) I never saw that one (only lasted a few episodes in the mid 90's IIRC), but from what I read, it was a richly deserved cancellation.

As long as we don't have to listen to the lyrics to the Star Trek theme, possibly the worst ever written (by Gene Roddenberry so he could get credit and payment from use of the music). Or perhaps the worst are the lyrics to The Odd Couple. Luckily, neither have ever been heard in movie or TV versions.

It's astonishing that Gene Roddenberry, the creator of Star Trek, actually wrote those lyrics, because they CONTRADICT the show's premise clearly spoken in the opening of every episode of the original series!

The aired Star Trek opening explicitly says that the Starship Enterprise is on a "five year mission", yet Roddenberry's theme lyrics say "I know his journey ends never/His star trek will go on forever"!

Is the mission five years, or is it forever?

I'd assume the mission that was given to the crew and capt. of the ship was 5 years. However Capt. Kirk's mission, being his life's goal, his burning desire to explore and be a space woman lover, was probably what the song was referencing.

It WOULD have been funny if the writers had put some effort into it, and came up with some cool rhymes and put it into song form. The joke was too sloppy and badly written so what could've been funny with minimal effort, was lost. Jeez pay some out of work song writer a hundred bucks to come up with some rhymes and some topical feminist references.
