Season 1 DVD Rip??

Has anyone considered doing a rip of the Family Guy DVD so that there are better copies of Season 1 out there? I would but have no DVD player to do it.

I'll be doing that when I get the DVDs in about a week (so it may be a couple weeks+ before I get everything ripped - it'll be my first experience with DVD > SVCD conversion). I'll post the SVCD-quality episodes on my site with the rest of my recorded eps. I could also upload the MPEG-1 versions to someone else's site...

I'll take 'em all... maybe even the SVCD versions. Make sure they're NTSC compatible so us U.S.ers can watch them...

I received the DVDs yesterday and have begun the conversion to SVCD. Since they are originally PAL format, I had to do quite a bit of research on deinterlacing to get the final mpg file looking good. You'll see some 'ghosting', but that's present on the original DVD too so there's nothing to be done about that. (I read that PAL DVDs of original NTSC broadcasts can have this happen if the conversion from NTSC to PAL is not quite perfect; I guess Fox didn't really put too much effort into this release.) Still, the quality is about as good as you're going to see anywhere short of a Region 1 release. And of course, if FG is ever released in Region 1 (which is probably unlikely at this point) I'll remove these episodes from my server (these files are strictly for Region 1 folks who can't get the DVD).

Anyway, the first episode is up now and more will follow. Note that the DVD release contains the first 14 eps in *production*, not broadcast, order. So, some of them will be found in my Season 2 folder (e.g. Running Mates, Holy Crap) since I organize them according to when they originally aired in the US.
