Based on "Brian's Love", I get the feeling that Brian is understood. Based on the first real episode ("the brocolli must die!"), I get the feeling that they all basically understand Stewie, but not necessarily the gist of his words. No idea, really. I get the feeling it's one of those deals where people will bitch just to bitch. Those that enjoy it aren't (obviously) offended by the humor.

I've heard it argued both ways. I believe that they both can be heard, but then again how do you explain the fact that Stewie has a British accent, and the fact that he's not spanked on a regular basis?!? ;-) I guess the world may never know for sure. Kinda like the old "How many licks to the center of a Tootsie-Pop" question...

I'd have to agree on that one. Some people have nothing better to do. I just like (in a sick sort of way) reading the gripes. It keeps me in stiches for quite awhile. I thought about it the other night while watching John Stossel's report on ABC about Freedom of Speech. What a hoot... I could ramble on about that for ever, but will wait until it keeps with the FG theme.

I haven't really heard Stewie use any words/phrases that are really that difficult to understand. Saying things such as "What the deuce are you staring at?" and "I must end your oppresive reign of matriarchal tyranny." seem to me to be just exaggerations of the way cartoon/comic book villains talk. And, if I recall correctly, Lois refused Stewie his dessert for telling her to burn in hell.

I think the British accent thing is another exaggeration of the comic book villain caricature.

I haven't heard much bitching about this specific episode. The only complaining I've heard has been about the show in general. But then again, those that don't like it are cordially invited to eat a bag of fart...oh yeah, and DON'T WATCH IT!

I love the way people are stupid. It's hilarious. I never run out of mock fodder. As for the Stossel report...what did you think of those teachers who were pissed about that website? I thought they were RIOTOUS. Did you happen to catch it when the one of them said "Freedom of speech is the freedom to express an opinion, not the freedom to threat.", then went on to explain that "shun" is not a commonly used word? Please tell me that woman's not an English teacher, or I shudder to think of the future of this country.

For the most part Stewie is pretty darned understandable. I just can't believe he gets away with most of it. Guess it makes it a little more funny when he gets so frustrated when no one takes his threats seriously. But speaking of misunderstandings... I remember Brian commenting on someone being a runt, then clarifying with "I said RUNT" ;-)

I stand corrected... apparently there is only one troll here. Forgive me. But I would have to agree that the button on the front of the TV works both ways. On AND off. Some people just have no life and need to bitch about something..

I really felt sorry for them. I was so emotional during that scene I thought I was going to have to call 911. I was rolling around on the floor, laughing so hard and trying to catch my breath that I bumped my head and dammed near passed out. I may sue ABC for the emotional damage!

I am still trying to figure out how "shun = threat" Acording to dictionary.com it means to avoid deliberately; keep away from. I fail to see where the threat is.

Due to poor writing (or the intentional snubbing of continuity), we get to each decide for ourselves who understands whom and when. Look for it to change, not just from episode to episode, but from scene to scene as well.

BTW, are you aware that it's the number one show with teenagers, and a top 5 show with Men 18-34... Fox's primary demographic. This show is never going away.
