OT: How to block messages on newsgroups?

How do I block certain people from appearing on newsgroups I visit? I think it's called a "killfile." If I don't learn how to do this, I'm going to stop visiting alt.tv.simpsons because someone keeps posting anti-gay and anti-semetic messages, and it's to the point where there are hardly any actual Simpsons topics. Thanks!

You need a newsgroup reader that has killfile features. I am using sylpheed (from sorceforge) which is for unix-type OS's but I'm sure there are some good equivalents for windoze. You just have to do some searching. Maybe try tucows.com for starters (if they're still around)...

Since you're on AOL, how about calling them up and asking them? I mean, that's what you're paying them for, right? The prices AOL charges have to be worth something to someone. Take advantage of what's rightfully yours: free tech support.

AOL makes you do tech support via chat windows. Very annoying. I can't say I've regretted leaving for a moment.

I hate AOL, but I've had to work on other people's systems when repairing computers. It's been a while, but I called a toll-free # to talk to tech support. If they've changed that, I believe you, but what's wrong with chat windows? I've had live-chat support sessions before with other companies and was always happy with the experience. Well, no unhappier than I would have been with a live call...

It's available in your newsgroups settings. I don't use the latest version of AOL, so I can't tell you exactly the steps to take, but you can set up kill filters.

You can set Agent to either not download message bodies automatically, or to just not download bodies that are longer than a specified number of lines.
