Where are the buddies of Peter Griffin? Mort's voice is the same as the scientist on the Simpsons. Same Woody Allen sounding crap! Peter's diverse buddies were more funny than this crap character! The show is lacking without that key element!

It's not the same voice at all. It *is* the same voice as the Sol Rosenberg character from the Jerky Boys recordings. And it's *supposed* to be a hyperbole of Woody Allen.
I don't like him either...his opening bit when he was talking to the school kids just wasn't funny. I don't mind if he shows up every now and then, but I don't want to see him become Peter's sidekick in every single episode...
i got the 'returning favorites' issue of tv guide a few days ago and in the family guy paragraph in the issue they said that mort was going to be a regular character. ARRRGGGH! we don't need him every week! I think they're all very funny....my only complaint is that the cut-away gags have been cut down a lot (as may have noticed from the last two episodes)....but the ones that are there are great. There are some really good songs too, if you enjoyed those from the other "musical episodes" (Road To Road Island, A Picture's Worth a Thousand Bucks, E Peterbus Unum, Wasted Talent, Lets Go To The Hop). There's lots of great Quagmire stuff coming up, Death has a few more cameos, and there are some more new neighbors.

Isn't it more of a Jerry Lewis thing? I know that's definitely the inspiration for Professor Frink on the Simpsons, though I think Mort Goldman comes somewhere inbetween Lewis & Allen. (The pitch is definitely closer to Jerry Lewis.)

Shi Bao NaiI'm not familiar with Jerry Lewis's voice or act. Does it involve whining about how crappy his life a lot? Mort sounds exactly like the Sol Rosenberg character; imo, they both sound like Woody Allen whining extra hard...hence the slight pitch change.
Jerry Lewis hasn't done that kind of thing in a *long* time, so for a lot of people, he's just that guy that hosts a telethon on Labor Day. Back in the 50s and 60s, he made a lot of movies with Dean Martin. Dean was the "straight guy", the suave and debonair ladies man who crooned love songs, while Jerry Lewis was the crazy imbecile with a heart of gold. Lewis was always falling and getting sick and alternating between screaming tirades (closer to Professor Frink), and slower whining and kvetching about various ailments and other complaints.
Lewis' characters, as well as Sol Rosenberg and some of Woody Allen's work, are all pretty much stock movie/theatre Jewish stereotypes, originating from vaudville acts and other Borscht Belt comedy. I just tend to associate Goldman more with Lewis than Allen--mainly for the type of humor (Lewis' quick joke/physical humor vs. Allen's more subtle, cerebral comedy). Time will tell, I suppose, and I reckon it will be the subject of discussions long after Family Guy has been cancelled. :)
(And while we're looking for influences for Mort Goldman, does he remind anyone else of Chuckie from the Rugrats, albeit nowhere near as likeable?)

Professor Frink's voice is based on Jerry Lewis as The Nutty Professor - the classic nerd. (Yes, there was Nutty Professor before Eddie Murphy's version.) I can see a little of this in the Mort Goldman character, too.
If you listen closely, the voice isn't the same as Sol. Close, but not the same. Given that Mort doesn't share his name with Sol, I'd have to say that Mort's character was based on the Sol Rosenberg character.
Just givin' my humble opinion.
