Family Guy (a cartoon on the aptly named "Cartoon Network") will be made into a live action movie! Tom Arnold will play Peter; Lois will be portrayed by Cheryl Hines (Larry David's wife on "Curb Your Enthusiasm"); the kids will be played by Katie Holmes and Freddy Prinze Jr. (who is on a weight-gaining regimen as we speak); Brian will be computer-generated (ala "Scooby Doo"); Stewie will be animatronic (like "E.T."). The director will be the award-winning Alan Smithee. The script will be co-written by Seth McFarlane and Jackie Martling. Before you people beat your meat into oblivion, this information may be totally fabricated.

So Fran Drescher and the Olsen twins were unavailable, huh?

The name "Alan Smithee" is a clue that it's likely to be a joke. When a film turns out so dreadful that the director doesn't want to be credited for it, "Alan Smithee" is the pseudonym that's often used.

I believe that should be "was often used." Now so many people know about it that "Alan Smithee" attracts too much attention. After all, the director is trying to not be connected to the movie. With Alan Smithee now in legendary status, millions would immediately investigate to see who Alan Smithee really was for that movie (and find out quite easily). I saw a documentary about this recently. What they do now is make up new names and don't reuse them much, if at all.

So, Jackie Martling finally has gotten his dream as a script doctor. Where was he on McHales Navy?
