Does anyone know of a audio/video player that i can download that will play avi & mov files?
i've downloaded a few episodes but the only ones that work are rm files!
WMP 6.4 & the new version both try to download a codec but can't find one & Real Player 8 can't download a "plug-in"!
It's driving me mad!
Anyone else had problems with avi & mov files?

Your problem with the AVI files is most likely the DIVX codec hack that is circulating pretty widely. DIVX rendered my video capture installation unusable, but if all you do is watch downloaded files it's possible you may not notice any problems with it. It's a hack of the MPEG4 standard which is why MP won't supply a compatible codec.
MOV files are in Apple's proprietary QuickTime format, and that's why Microsoft's and Real's players won't play them. QuickTime gives the worst performance of all the existing video codecs and the player is another one of those that attempts to take over your PC and become the only player you ever use. If somebody says their file is in QuickTime or MOV format, I just pass it by and keep looking.
That answer was rather negative in tone, but it contains the keywords you need to find the codec and player if you really want them. You won't ever catch me recommending either one.

i completely disagree. quicktime hasnt taken over any files except MOVs. media player, on the other hand, regains control even when i manually associate extensions with other players. the MOV format seems to have the best video for the size, and while the sound isnt the best, it's suitable for TV shows that are mostly voices. go download the third star wars trailer, the quality is amazing.
