Agen't doesn't organize posts very well. I only use it once in awhile.

It doesn't group them, but all you have to do is find one message go to download that and it will get the rest automatically.

With RAR you can split it up into a bunch of little files of any size you want... So you can make a 200MB file into twenty 10MB files if you wanted. Zipping a video file won't do anything to make it smaller (they're already pretty compressed), plus you can't have a file that big in one post.

Zip is fine for most applications, but not for newsgroups. As craig said, it allows you to split the archive up into smaller blocks.

This is important because if one section of a file doesn't propagate across the news-servers, it means that all the person has to do is repost a single rar file (or rebuild it using pars), instead of an entire episode. And given the state of news-servers, it's *VERY* unlikely that you could post a 140Mb zip file in one post, and actually have it make it intact to just about anyone.

Well with PowerPost, this isn't really a problem is it? I still prefer .rars, but that thought just came to me because of this discussion. PowerPost lets you repost specific parts, so it would be easy to fill. The only other reason you would really need .rars or .zips was to post warez where there are a bunch of files included in directories and such.

They compress it just fine, but movies are already compressed, so there's nothing left to do. Since ZIP is lossless compression, it can't make the files any smaller (ie, degrade the quality).
