help splitting mpeg files

I had an idea on how to help in the rectifying of files that have not downloaded properly from Craigs server, and need help finding a program that will work. My idea was that I could split the mpeg files such that the video would stop right before a problem if the whole thing had been downloaded - like splitting a 1gb movie so it fits on 2 discs. Then I could rename the first video that works as a gozilla file and then continue downloading it from where it left off, thus not having to download the whole thing again over this 56k modem. I have a program that will join avi's and one that will join mpegs, but none that will seperate them, and a search on google didn't help. So does anyone have any suggestions on a program that will work?

It would be ten times easier to split each MPG into RAR files, then have you rejoin/uncompress them when you're done. I don't really have the space for that unless I don't have the MPGs at all, just the RAR versions.

Going the RAR way was not what I was thinking about - I did manage to do what I was trying to using the opera internet browser - just download the file from the hard drive and close the browser when it reaches the right stage in the film. This way I still have the file to that point. Then rename and presto, I can resume the download to get a good copy. The thing is I have a few episodes that say half way through they stuff up, and it takes about 13 hours to download each episode so I don't want to be downloading the whole thing over again, especially if the only problem in the whole thing may have happened at 190 MB into the download. P.S. Although there have been occasional problems with episodes playing, the server is much appreciated Craig, especially since we get FG about 18 months later on tv here than when it is on in USA

It would be a lot easier and errorless to make RAR files, since smaller files are less likely to screw up, and if you do have a problem, winrar will tell you which file is corrupt, then you just redownload that one.

TMPG Enc can split and merge mpeg video files. It's available at http://www.tmpgenc.com. Maybe it'll work for what you're trying to do.

That program seems to be just was I was looking for, and works a lot better than the other way I was trying. Thanks.
