How did the 'Scary Movie' franchise producers get away with all their parodies ('Scream' franchise)? IIRC, they even used the 'Scream' mask in it.
Must have gotten approval. Isn't this the same thing?
But Seth McFarlane has copied every pop culture reference possible and gets away with it... though often getting approval and paying for it at times before it appears in an episode of 'Family Guy'.
The test will probably (and should, imo) hinge on whether MACGRUBER is a true satire or a mere comedy.

Of course, the MacGyver team doesn't have to win. They just have to drag out the case long enough that they get their movie ready first. Then they can poison their own market.

It'd be considered an underground railroad for aspiring comics... the vast majority of whom will be arrested at the border... or perish in transit...
I never thought I'd be cheering on people stopping satire but MacGruber is horrible as a 2 minute sketch I'd hate to see that come full length.
