A) divx is a form of mpeg compression B) divx looks better than what you're thinking of (i think) C) don't make files into larger formats, it deludes the pool of VCDs. Think of replacing some CDs in the store with mp3-sourced CD-Rs. Not good. D) Keep it as divx and spread it if you can

Thats probably beacuase most people don't know how to encode in DivX. DivX is a very good compression system once you get the setting right.

Problem with most people is they keep re-encoding a file to get the file size down, this makes then looses much more of the videos quality, then it would have done encoding once to the right files size.

You also have to remeber that theres a hell of a lot of bog standard modem users around who couldn't stand trying to download a HQ video.
