Family Guy Wins an Emmy!!

Congratulations to the crew of "Family Guy"!

"Family Guy" won the Emmy for 'Outstanding Music And Lyrics'. Much deserved recognition for the hard work of the people behind the show. I'm happy for them and glad that years from now when I tell people of how brilliant and funny the show was, I can mention that it also won two Emmys during its brief three year run.

A great addition to the growing legacy of our beloved show "Family Guy".

The other was the Outstanding Male Voiceover Performance emmy won by Seth MacFarlane (for the voice of Stewie).

The show has won an Emmy for every year it was allowed to air a complete season ( Aired Season 2 - 21 episodes - 2000 Emmy ) ( Aired Season 3 - 21 episodes - 2002 Emmy ). Aired Season 1 was only 7 episodes long and was too close to the Emmy awards to be up for consideration. Fans will remember that during 2001 "Family Guy" was not on the air.

"Family Guy" was definitely a winner. A show applauded by fans and critics but unfortunately a victim of network politics.

Untrue. Frames doesn't indicate quality. I'd rather watch a nice held pose if it conveys an emotion rather than have characters move constantly and epileptic-like. Anime has great TIMING. Much like Family Guy, actually..Family Guy doesn't have as many "frames" as other shows, but does it matter? No. Snapping from a funny pose to another is what makes it work.

Some shows yes, some shows no. You're like a person who has only seen Klasky Csupo shows like Thornberries and Rugrats and then assumes all American animation is the same. Dragonball isn't Hamtaro, Hamtaro's not Pokemon, Pokemon is not Cowboy Bebop, Cowboy Bebop is not Kiki's Delivery Service, etc etc etc.

Name a show. Most anime fights are highly choreographed w/ excellent poses and timing.

You can't judge an entire nation's output of animation as crap...especially since I'm guessing all you've seen is Speed Racer and Pokemon. Watch something like Bubblegum Crisis Tokyo 2040, El Hazard, Cowboy Bebop, or Blue Seed and then say it's crap. You won't be able to, because they're beautiful, high quality shows.

I watch stories. I enjoy characters. If you're looking at the mouths, you've completely missed the fucking point. Emotion, good stories, good artwork, staging, layout, and posing is more important than accurate lip sync.

Not to me. I'm really weird. Off lip-sync will take over when I'm watching cartoons and sometimes live stuff (overdubbing can suck if done wrong). I can't help it. I like to watch animation for technical accuracy just as much as for stories and when the only motions for a mouth seem to be open big/close I can't stand it!

I was amazed when I started watching the original Japanese versions of Kimba. The Japanese didn't even _try_ for lip sync. The American dubbed versions were much closer in lip sync (and this was in 1966, when they didn't have... um... whatever digital process they use these days).

To me it's like nails on a chalkboard...and this problem has slowly gotten worse as I got older. I used to watch the cheap animations on occasion as a kid, and had no problems, but then I did after a while. Hell, I can't even watch Tiny Toons anymore cause the animation is so bad, doesn't mean I still don't have a soft spot for how much I liked it when I was 10-12 or so.

Reminds me. My boyfriend put on this really old Jackie Chan movie when he was staying at my brother's house. I don't recall the movie, but he had everyone do really bad audio redubbing that didn't sync up on purpose and OHHH it killed me! I kept going "Please hun, change the CHANNEL!" hehe

Like I didn't notice this? But the lip sync is pretty good...so it doesn't bug me.

Opinions are not inherently ignorant, of course, but certainly they can be ignorant. For example, what if I said something like, "In my opinion, PCs are better than Macs (uh oh...) because Macs can't you can't buy add-ons for Macs." That statement is an opinion based in ignorance. (btw, I am a 100% PC guy, but one who happens to realize that different people have different needs/tastes.)
