Two questions:
How was this done technically? Stewie's movements are identical to those of Jerry the Mouse in the original 1945 "Anchors Away" so far as I can tell. Did they work from the orignal animation cells or what?
How was MGM persuaded to let Fox use the sequence?

Not the same thing though; the "Take On Me" spoof didn't actually use any of the original footage, at least based on my quick comparison of the two.
I guess for the Gene Kelly segment Stewie was just drawn over Jerry?
