CUT on the DVD

Somebody can list all the cuts on the season 1/2 Dvd ?
I know only about the Jfk Pez and the Osama Bin Laden..
And I heard even the Dee Beers is trimmed..
Someone knows more ?

I kinda wished they left that intact a bit more on this one. Even the R2 DVD release has this too. I guess it seemed too pointless to cut right into the "Because she'll pretty much have to" slogan before showing the female sillouette going down on that guy.

Also, the scene between Brian and Dean Koontz was cut, wasn't it? I seem to remember that the first time that episode aired, Brian ran over Koontz, then backed up over him, then ran over him again, and possibly backed over him again.

The CN airing was identical to the DVD version: Brian runs over Koontz, then backs over him (which is somewhat out of character for Brian). In the original version, I believe, he runs over Koontz several more times.

Apparently in Chitty Chitty Death Bang, when Stewie makes his wish, you originally hear people shouting "Sieg Hiel!" That's not on the DVD, just sounds of people marching and bombs dropping.

I feel ashamed at the decades that follow, and only a few of us would ever talk about this to any newbie Family Guy fans or those who like to know about censored animation about this scene, and how pointless it was to edit it out of a program after it was aired a few times, and shown in this fashion for years with no hope to see it again (beyond the digital and analog copies that would be available to those anyway).

And yet, not on my televised recording from two years ago. This is the scene from "Chitty Chitty Death Bang" where after defeating the man in white, Stewie is asked to blow out the candles and wish for what he wants most in the whole world. "The whole world, you say?" Stewie replies, and in my taped version, you hear (in this order) the whistle of a bomb dropping, the synchronized steps of an army marching, the drone of an airplane flying, and then an explosion. No Hitler. No Sieg Heil.

Hmmmmm...I don't right now remember what episode it was in, (A Hero Sits Next Door, most likely...since I don't have that one on tape) but did they cut that scene with Hitler working out at the gym looking seriously pissed off at the Orthodox Jew with the big muscles attracting the babes?

This is in "Death Has A Shadow" and is intact on the DVD.

What you guys are experiencing are the after-effects of network censorship.

Every episode of any television show has an original tape copy called a "master" that's stored away in some vault. Whenever shows are placed into syndication or released on DVDs, they source the episodes from those masters. (Virtually everyone here should know this much.)

Well, in many situations, while a show like Family Guy is still airing on Fox, certain elements of an episode will generate lots of viewer complaints, and the network will order the production of a new master of the episode without the offending material. (Hence in all repeat showings on Fox, the offending material will be gone or altered somehow. This is what happened with the "Sieg Heil" audio; it was present in Fox's first broadcast of the episode, but due to complaints, they ordered a new master without that audio, and then for all repeat broadcasts of it, they aired the new master. Which is why some of you with Fox recordings hear it, and yet some of you with other Fox recordings don't. It depends upon WHICH Fox broadcast your copy came from -- the first one, or the subsequent ones.)

Here's the problem with that. When networks order changes to a master, the show's post-production people simply retrieve the master from the vault, dub it to a new tape (labeled a "revised master") without the offending scenes or sound, and then send BOTH of them (the master and the revised master) back to the vault to be archived along side each other. What they rarely do, however, is write anything on the revised master tape's label indicating HOW it differs from the original master. So years later, when syndication/DVD people enter the vaults to retrieve the episode masters, they simply see "master" and "revised master" sitting alongside each other, shrug their shoulders, and "pick one." Viola -- network censorship unintentionally lives on in syndication and on DVD. Maybe it seems hard to believe, but studios really ARE that disorganized when it comes to managing their tape libraries. :-)

So I'd bet that at least half of the cuts being seen on these DVDs were not actually done on purpose, but appear because the tape jockeys who made the DVDs were picking up some of the revised masters that Fox ordered sans- offending material.

On the up side, though, this sort of incompetence can also mean that scenes originally removed from network repeats reappear in syndication or on DVD. With The Simpsons, for example, there was an early episode where Bart had said "Bad influence, my ass!" That having being during the early 1990s, parents went crazy and sent Fox enough hate mail to convince them to have the episode changed. A revised master (with Bart saying "Bad influence, my butt!" instead) was created and shown for each of Fox's repeat airings of the episode. But when The Simpsons entered syndication, the tape people accidentally grabbed the original master instead of the revised one. So now, any time you see the episode "Homer Defined" in syndication, you can hear the original dialogue that was never intended to be heard again.

The same thing happened with the Simpsons episode "Sunday, Cruddy Sunday," in which "The Catholic Church" was mentioned in a sexual context -- causing legions of religious types to write in and complain. Fox ordered that the dialogue be changed to just "The Church," and so in every repeat showing on the network, the original dialogue was gone. But yet again, when the tape people went into the vaults to create the syndicated version, they grabbed the non-revised master copy, and so now, in syndication, the original line has come back.

I wouldn't be surprised if this has happened with a few scenes/lines in Family Guy that Fox originally had removed.

Has anyone bothered to detail exactly how the various scenes were cut on the DVD vs. original showing? (Or vs. rerun if that actually contained more than the original showing?) Not just "the Mr. Rogers scene," but exactly how the Mr. Rogers scene differs on the DVD vs. the full version -- for example. Or the deBoers diamond ad spoof -- how is the DVD different exactly?
