Fam Guy movie becoming a reality

I expected a better reaction to this news. I was already standing when I heard the news on Fox News last night, at the end of the Fox Report just before Bill O'Reilly came on. "...and good news for Family Guy..." At first, I thought they were going to say something about a fourth season, but a full-length feature film "to be expected in about a year and a half" is good enough... for now. Maybe its success, assuming it succeeds, will clue the "experts" in and warrant a severely delayed fourth season.

Or maybe it will be old by then.

yeah. i expected a huge uproar on the net. but that doesn't seem to be the case. I WAS TREMENDOUSLY HAPPY concerning the recent news but was too damn lazy to type it. i dont know what the fans in general think.

I'm cautiously optimistic. I guess I just can't fathom FG having a storyling run for 90 minutes. Maybe it'll be 3 separate eps or a series of shorts (like Viewer Mail # 1).

There are only 2 eps I can think of that could have been stretched out to a full-length movie: -Brian: Portrait Of A Dog (Very rushed at the end) -Road To Rhode Island (A 2 storyline ep with tons of potential)

And, no, I'm not just shilling my 2 favorite eps again. Nice memory, though. ;-)

Maybe I'm alone on this, but I think that would be an awful idea. Really, FG was so great because it had a certain idea of what was too far. As a result, Seth & crew worked within those parameters and used a combination of shock and satire to draw humor. If it was the shock idea only, it would have become really tiresome very quickly (like South Park). No, I hope Seth goes for PG-13 & tries to be FUNNY, not shocking. The difference will be money in the film company's bank. And that, my friends, is how a sequel comes about.

One last comparison: A movie of a show must be close enough to the actual show & its expected ideas to fly. Gramercy Pictures totally failed to understand this and, sadly, MST3K: The Movie was really, really bad.

I think Seth shouldn't particualarly aim for either shocking or PG-13. He should focus entirely on funny, and when he's done, then see whether the movie has come out as an R or PG-13 film.

I didn't necessarily mean they should go all out to be shocking and have everyone say "fuck" 100 times just for the sake of it, but they could go further with the kinds of jokes that they had to edit or throw out because Fox demanded cuts, like how in the dvd commentary they say the diamond advert parody had to be trimmed, so what I meant was they wouldn't always be restricting themselves to what's acceptable to network tv, they could throw in gags that they'd otherwise never be able to get away with. They've probably got a whole stack of risque jokes that they weren't allowed to put in!

Yeah, I think they could get away with PG-13 too, especially in today's world. I think the main point is that kids sit in front of TVs all the time, so the stuff that seems risque on cable isn't nearly as bad in a movie, because parents exercise much more control over what movies their children (or their children's friends in their home) see. Not complete control, but more control. And standards are getting (refusing to say higher or lower) better.

I do not agree, I think we all know that Seth has enough respect for his creation and intelligence within him not to allow it to become the victim of "apr�s-TV vandalism".

I think that we will finally see the "TRUE" family guy, rather than the (IMHO) highly censored versions that FOX put out. It is obvious that Seth had a lot more ideas and additions for Family guy , you can tell by his interviews. Now he will be able to show them as he wanted. Perhaps, like in another post somewhere here, he will choose to make just a feature length episode , exactly the same as has been made but this time add in everything that he and the other writers wanted to but couldn't previously.

I fully take on board your concern about what happened to South Park, but the difference here is that South Park was/is all about the money, Family Guy is an artistic creation and this is now an opportunity for the creators to create the "piece de resistance"

If you read my post Brad, I was not comparing them. I was comparing the "After effect" of the SP movie to the proposed after effect of a FG movie mentioned in an earlier post.

The commentary was simply brilliant. Most of the jokes were simply overkill. I enjoy it sometimes. I despise it most other times. I wish Kenny would take off his hood once in a while and talk like a normal kid. Kenny: The Movie would be a good time for him to take it off, just once, and say something we all know he's been saying, but clearly for once... Not that I'd care to see it.
