This must be something that networks do with shows that are (as they think) too good to cancel, but not really good enough to promote properly. Look at how many times NBC moved Newsradio... but the fans were loyal enough to follow it and the show stayed on a lot longer than it otherwise might have.

But why did they have to put it up against Friends??? Now I actually hope they do move it again.

no, but family guy will get crushed in the ratings by comparison, and fox will see that as their excuse to give it the ax, if they were looking for one

Said it before and I'll say it again:

Move FG to Sundays to make an all-animated block of programming. Start with King of the Hill so that the conservative types can watch it and then surf away. Next, Futurama/Simpsons; I don't care which comes first. Then FG. Move Malcolm to its own night and build programming around it. It's a strong, popular show ratings-wise.

Family Guy started out on Sunday. I was so pissed when Malcolm came along and bumped it to a weeknight. Plus I think MIM sucks. The bright side is that I can watch Futurama, make dinner during KOTH, watch Simpsons, clean up during Malcolm, and watch X-Files.

Also when Family Guy started out, Fox was like "Here's a new animated show. Check it out." When they started MIM, it was an promotional barrage. They practically had people putting flyers under people's windshield wipers.

this is exactly what CBS fucking did to WKRP when it was in first run. after it was cancelled it was finally put in a set timeleslot and hit Number One in the summer repeats! of course the same people who had fucked 'KRP around now tried to bring it back after the success of the repeats - but it was too late as all the key cast members had moved on to other projects

I say that family guy should just leave that deadpan network FOX and go somewhere meaningful like comedy central! Looks like a job for...TiVo. It will record shows even if the timeslots change. Program it once and forget it.

I TiVo it as well, but the reality is that most people do not yet, of course. Until then, we worry about timeslots for FG because a poor one can ultimately mean no FG at all. :(
