The Inconsistency of Peter Griffin's Geneology

*SPOILER (If you haven't seen the latest ep (this means you, England))*

Peter Griffin - Husband, Father...Brother: In researching his heritage, Peter's Great-Grandfather, Osias Griffin, is one of the owners of a dozen cutting-edge-technology telephones. His Great-Grandfather, Thomas Griffin, was apparently a philosopher ("Why?"). An unknown amount of generations back (described as "In 1840"), Nate Griffin is found to be an African-American slave.

All of these characters are assumed to be American, correct? American telephones, American accents, American slave, and all supposedly in a straight father-son line down to Peter. However, Peter's father (in Holy Crap!) was obviously raised in Ireland. Sure, someone coulda jumped on a boat from America to Ireland and then Peter's dad came back, but as Thomas Griffin would say... "Why?"

And in one episode...Peter has a flashback to an ancestor that is a chicken fighter.. and he's mexican.

And the inconsistency of Peter Griffin's "genealogy"... Sorry, can't help being pedantic. :)

On a mostly related note, I think that the lack of continuity is one of the great strengths of "The Family Guy" versus "The Simpsons". While I enjoy both shows, hardcore fans get their panties in a wad if Lisa is out of character for a single episode, or Homer makes reference to something that contradicts a much-beloved episode in season 3. TFG throws continuity completely out of the window, particularly with all of the "Remember when you..." cut scenes that are really the most enjoyable parts of the shows. For God's sake, how many previous jobs has Peter had? (I'm sure it's not quite up to Homer's record, though, and those were complete episodes, not just five second scenes.)
