Hopefully this will get Fox to release region 1 DVDs for us in the U.S. who have yet to get a release yet.

Considering Fox still think it has Syndication value over there (as with Futurama).
Fox will (or at least think they will) lose money if they release it, and the fact that they make more money on European releases pushes it (Due to the higher price)
And, IMO, it's about time that the American audience have a reason to see the unfortunate DVD problem all of us have in the UK, where DVD's are released worse then in the US, alternatively cut, or in the worse cases not released at all. If this gets the people in the US (aswell as the Movie and TV companies there) to realise how DVD Regions/importation is Price Fixing.

Yeah, I know, the studios own the films, why shouldn't they have control? Because they have always treated the home audience as the enemy, and not as the reason they even have a business. Anyone remember the video cassette that was designed to erase itself after a certain number of viewings? Actually, the war against the home viewer goes back to the 50s, but it's picked up pace in recent years, and now they hold the controlling hand. You don't really think it's due to demand that DVDs are squeezing out VHS from the stores, do you?
DIVX (not the bastard codec, the pay-per-view DVD) was a little too much a little too quickly, but look around. The signs are there--it'll get worse.
how will it get worse? very soon we will have affordable DVD recording, just like we have recordable cassette tapes. at least with DVD we dodged the betamax/VHS issue. sure, there is macrovision, but there is always a way around everything. when's the last time someone was not cracked?
