Yeah I was kinda pissed as well. . .but some boring movie? I mean it wasn't that great, but come on , it was at least better than The Phantom Menace!

(That's how it worked for me and Star Wars -- I saw the new versions first, and then when I saw someone's copies of the old version some time later, I noticed quite a few visual deteriorations... Basically, the new versions are better, or else the entire world would have made a controversy out of this.)

A large part of art is how you handle limitations. And they originally did that very well. There really was nothing wrong with the original that required reworking. Lucas' later SW projects all have the flavor of an unhealthy obsession.
That explains your position on this.
No one I know, who saw the originals first, thinks the new ones are better. But there's no sense making a controversy out of it--Lucas owns them. He can mess them up if he wants to. It just would have been nice if had some consideration for the people who made it possible for him to live his obsession, and kept intact the film that made his career.
Prequals never work.
The first three movies worked because they offered something unexpected (SW, breathtaking special effects, TESB, plot twists, ROTJ, closure).

I despise the new movies, and I hate it when the groundbreaking Star Wars is demoted to just another chapter. It's NOT.
"Dune" was better than Phantom Menace. "Clones" was at least equally bad as "Dune".
I never understood the desire to do these movies. We know what will happen.

Why he started at Episode IV I'll never understand. My brother use to read the books, way before they even started doing EP I. My brother told me who takes Anakin Skywalker's last arm, and both his legs. Years before EP I, and probably before George even came up with the idea of making the first three Epiosdes into Movies. This was sometime in the early 90's when my brother read the books. Anyways, laters.
